Lestat's Future
re: Lestat's Future#25
Posted: 5/19/06 at 12:40amI do believe I enjoyed it enough to go to the last show. The cast did such a fine job the day I went. I am curious how they will do on their last.

Good. I want to see it. I have tixs for July 15th. Mr. Roxy and I seem to have the same taste in shows.

Hopefully for you it will make it until than
Only Warner Brothers & the producers have a timetable as to how long they will give it before pulling the plug. Something like this may have them think twice before venturing onto Broadway again & you couldn't blame them

I highly doubt that a closing notice will be posted next week. After pumping so much money into this show I would be shocked to see Warner Brothers close it after 3 weeks at 60% capacity in one of the worst months for Broadway without waiting to see if summer tourism will help the sales.
Wedding Singer has been about the same as Lestat for the past couple of weeks, and Drowsy has only been at about 80%. Things should pick up for these two because of the Tony's more so than Lestat, but still.
I don't think the people at that theater have anything to worry about until after Hot Feet closes.

Point taken. It is absolutely true that the decision makers could be changing their minds on whether to run or close on a regular basis. It happens all the time. I hope for the company's sake that my source was dead wrong and that the show runs through the summer at least.

It really should run through the summer. It only has another week or so to go until we're into June and the younger crowd is out of school and in the city. This show REALLY needs a younger crowd. Although women of all ages adore Hugh.
On the other hand, is it obvious to anyone else that Warner Brothers just....has no idea what they're doing? If you go to the visitor's center, there are no flyers...NOTHING that says this show even exists. There are no flyers at TKTS either. It's like they gave up and didn't print more. The pulled the commercial. There are no bus signs. No cab tops. They spent all of their money on pre-opening advertising and left NONE for continued promotion. That's how you advertise for film, but NOT theatre. I think they expected to get a crap load of Tony noms to do free advertising for them or something. The only thing I've seen is new pictures in front of the theatre saying what they've been nominated for. They don't even have a large TONY NOMINATED sign like the other shows do, that can be read from across the street.
They're not even papering shows with free tickets at Equity to at least get the house filled so people don't come away and write here about how empty the house was. It is a good how, but they're not advertising to their audience. How can anyone go if they don't know it's there?! I'm sure TKTS being moved to the Marriott Theatre and not being in front of the Palace anymore isn't helping either.
Warner Brothers is just proving incompetant. And apparantly no one is telling them what they're supposed to be doing. Or they're too proud to listen. Something is going on.
At least they're recording the album today. It was officially announced on Playbill.com.
