Any thoughts that Vampires ran longer than Lestat.

According to IBDB:

Lestat:
Previews: 33
Regular: 39

DotV:
Previews: 61
Regular: 56

May those in Lestat soon find new projects to bring to the Great White Way. Updated On: 5/24/06 at 05:44 AM

Dance of the vampires rocks
and thanks for those numbers Alex LaVelle!

But I have a question....
Dance of the vampires spent and outrageous amount of money on the set and production...although Lestat had fewer performances...which of the two shows "lost" the most?

When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

DotV had 61 previews?!?!?!? Wow. What a lengthy preview period.

As to why it ran longer than LESTAT - it ran longer because, quite frankly, it was more entertaining. And although Michael Crawford may not have been a big enough name to keep the show running, his fans (a rather obsessive lot) were numerous enough to keep it afloat those extra weeks.

That is an outrageous amount of previews!!

Does anyone know why they had that many previews?

The director's mother died during the previews. He went away, Michael Crawford took over, Jim Steinman abandoned the show and went public about his feelings in an interview with Michael Reidel (which upset a *lot* of people), John Rando came back, cut out all the good bits... at the last minute... and, come opening night, it exploded like a warhead

Lestat is not a bad show. It closed so early (and was doomed to from the beginning) because its weekly running costs are so ridiculously high. Yes, when all is said and done it cost over 15 million to make the musical, but the weekly running cost is over $500,000....and it only brought in about $400,000 a week...losing far too much on top of the already enormous amount of money put into the show to begin with.

It should not have been in the Palace, and they should have advertised better.

It sucks that both of them and Dracula are closed(ing)!!

I actually liked all three of them because they weren't perfect. But most of the casts made it worth while!

Yeah? You think they would've thought that was obvious LONG time ago...human incapability of learning from our past.
