Well, thank you. But all the flattery in the world will not change my mind about her, sorry.

According to Sondheim, Merman gave an extraordinarily nuanced performance despite herself.
Sean, your pose as a Bitchy Theater Queen makes you miss the real star quality in these performances.
If you were alive 100 years ago, you would have been the kind of dandified poseur who would have said "Maude Adams is but a pallid reflection of Nina Boucicault!" or "Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree--what a ham!"
You're missing the forest for the opportunity to be bitchy about the trees.

Well, to get a little more back on topic with this thread...
Does anyone know where I can find out more about Patti? I went to her website, but there wasn't that much info there. Does anyone know of another site that has a lot of old interviews and stuff? Google isn't being that helpful. Thanks!

"Reviews? Folks, remember, Merman got *amazing* reviews too. Didnt make her that good an actress either. She basically played the same role over and over, whether it was ANNIE GET YOUR GUN or HAPPY HUNTING. It was just Merman playing Merman"
I have to agree with this. If you listen to the cast album of "Annie Get Your Gun" you hear Merman's Astoria accent coming through loud and clear.
