I'll try to gte a few rows back then - I don't like high stages. I'm 5'8, not an NBA player....

Thanks!

Just saw it tonight. God it's tough to say which is more likely between this and History Boys to win the Tony. This was so dark and bizarre, I loved it, but everyone sitting around me HATED it and complained the whole time. Many of them left at the intermission. I think this is enough to seal a History Boys victory. That, and the fact that Inishmore was written several years ago. But they've nominated Martin McDonough so many times without him winning, which might also sway things.

This leaving made me very angry. I don't believe anyone who leaves at the intermission of a show ever has any right to comment on what they thought of it, especially not to others during the show or at intermission. You don't see professional reviewers seeing half the play and then writing a review about it. You wouldn't read it. It's not a full picture.

I'm not saying it's wrong to walk out. If you're having a bad time at something, then go right ahead and leave at the intermission (or an appropriate break in the performance, if you must), but you're not allowed to have an opinion about a show overall since you didn't see the whole thing. It just doesn't make sense. You can only comment on what you saw.

I really loved both Inishmore and History Boys, but I think it's a shame that HB is doing so well while Inishmore is really struggling. Wasn't it the 30s percentage-wise last week. It's really a shame. I suppose some shows just shouldn't make the move to Broadway, but I do think this show deserves a bigger audience.

What THE HISTORY BOYS and INISHMORE have in common are that they are not big crowd pleasers - INISHMORE even less so.

When I saw INISHMORE, about a dozen people walked out. It's not for everyone. That doesn't mean that the show is lacking, it just means that it's not for everyone - anyone who's seen the show will agree with that.

While I loved INISHMORE, I don't think it's as good as THE PILLOWMAN or BEAUTY QUEEN - both of which still dealt with darker, more abstract issues but were presented in such a way that the appeal was greater.

Despite the artistic and critical success of INISHMORE, I can't imagine it running long, and that's a shame - but McDonagh knows this, and I'm sure he's not taking it personally. It's one of those shows that, no matter how or where it's produced, it will have walkouts and people who are totally alienated by the piece.

With that said, I thought both shows were excellent - but nothing will top THE HISTORY BOYS for me. I was astounded by the piece, and it moved me in such a way that I can only hope is felt by others.

I totally agree, Munk. While it's not all that surprising that it's a tough sell with a lot of walkouts (when I was on the phone at intermission outside, I walked past the trash and there were a few chucked Playbills/tix on top), it is a shame that it's playing to 35% capacity (or something equally ridiculous).

I think History Boys also gets the edge for me as well. I feel like I could go see that show over and over again and still get something new out of it everytime. I suppose it's nice that at least one of them is pulling in great numbers (not just for financial reasons, but for the fact that it's connecting with such a wide audience).
