Light in the Piazza video

Anyone else see the video on Broadway.com? Haven't seen the show yet, but it looks pretty and SOUNDS a little monotonous. Are there better songs in the show that what's shown?

from that video i'm the most impressed by kelli o'hara... we'll see if i feel the same way after seeing the show in may?

re: Light in the Piazza video

It is a very gorgeous show, the music is a little slow and repetitive but I loved that part. Kelli was good but Victoria Clark really pulled off her part better, to me. Its worth seeing but I think it will remain very devisive.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

monotonous?!? You obviously have not been SWEPT AWAY by this score, and you're really missing out.

This show hasn't really seemed to catch on...how come?

I haven't seen it so I can't speak from that perspective but this is board is one of the few places I've heard speak of it.

re: Light in the Piazza video

It hasn't caught on because it opened yesterday. Actually it's polarized like Caroline. A few people love it, a few people hate it, there are some who are in between. However the truth is EVERYONE (save for the few people who went to opening night) has seen previews which really aren't fair to judge. I'm going Sunday so I'll have to see then what's really changed. Actually once Caroline opened, I think it had tremendous buzz. Everyone was talking about Tonya Pinkins. People had issues with the show, but nothing really bad about Tonya..because she was fierce. I think the same holds true of Vikki Clark.

And for the record, this score is neither monotonous, nor repetitive. It might be a little hard to hear, what with the angular harmonies and such, but it's not monotonous. I think the peice needs to be listened to closer. Def not repetitive.

I actually liked the music. It did sounds somewhat boring on the video, but it seemed to have great potential. I'm looking forward to this cast recording (as I know I won't be able to see the show)

Adam Guettel is amazing. I'm so glad that his work is finally being produced on Broadway. We really need to embrace this show. Good shows with original music are so rare these days. Hold on to this one.

re: Light in the Piazza video

I saw this show tonight. I'm going to post a review tomorrow (too tired tonight) but I will say that this is the real deal. An absolutely gorgeous show with a sweeping score that's one of the most beautiful I've heard in quite a long time. Kelli O'Hara and Matt Morrison's voices are like buttah. Two of the best on Broadway right now.

WOW, Matt, I'm really happy you liked it! I hoped you would.... now I just need to educate you with regards to Spamalot! re: Light in the Piazza video

re: Light in the Piazza video

Yeah, that's not gonna happen QM. If SPAMALOT takes home any Tony's after seeing this tonight I'll be more than pissed.

However, strangely enough, I found Victoria to be the one member of the cast I could take or leave so I'm still rooting for Sheri for Best Actress. I saw DRS again this afternoon and I still LOVE it!

As much as I loved Piazza and I honestly think it is one of the most beautiful shows I have ever seen, I doubt it has a chance to win Best Musical. Neither has Sherie.

Glad you like it, Matt.

This show is proving to be more unpredictable as to who loves it and who doesn't than CAROLINE was.

re: Light in the Piazza video

I'm curious now if anyone else felt the way I did about Victoria Clark. Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike her at all but I just found her to be "servicable" in the role. It might be that I didn't find it entirely that well written. The one weak point, I thought.

re: Light in the Piazza video

I thought she was wonderful. I have to say she didn't quite blow me totally away but still the best female performance this year, even if it's just because of her last song in Piazza!

To me that song was fine but not what I was expecting from what I'd heard. Don't get me wrong, I thought she was very good, but I didn't see this AMAZING performance I heard about.

re: Light in the Piazza video

I don't know. I found it an incredibly deep, layered, subtle and sublime performance from her. No "big" showy moments. It was all in the subtext. One of the best musical theatre performances I've ever seen.

But, that's just me.
