Wow, didn't know Lillias White played Grizabella.
I saw her as Effie in the revival of DREAMGIRLS.

In the book "Broadway Day and Night" there is a section where Lillias White talks about juggling shooting a role on Sesame Street, a rehearsal for Cats (Grizabella), and a performance of the show she was currently performing in all in the same day. I don't think there's a picture, though. I used to have the book and have no idea what happened to it. This thread just reminded me of it.
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

I saw Lilias White as Grizabella in '92. I still have the playbill and there is a small picture of her dressed as the character inside. From what I recall, it was not the fabulous Lilias White performace you'd expect. She was just starting out. In my opinion, she went too much for a soulful rendition, when what I want is sheer, diva, raise the roof belting! And we know she can belt!

i bet if she were to play the role now she would go all out and belt the crap out her songs and give a real dive performence!!! :)

I'm sure she would belt the crap out of her songs, it's just too bad that the show will still suck.
