Lincoln Center's South Pacific

Posted: 11/19/08 at 10:14amI tried to look for orch seat tickets online using a discount code and I was informed that the show is sold out for months - is that true? I would like to visit the box office for more info. Which leads me to ask, could someone tell me where the box office is at Lincoln Center? Not too familiar with the area, however, I know that as I'm facing LC, Avery Fisher hall is to my right, so if we could go by those intial directions, I'll better understand where to go. Thanks!

Others can guide you there better than I - but this map should help you find the Vivian Beaumont from Avery Fisher Hall. The box office is downstairs and is accessible from the parking area (following the signs).
For what it's worth, I was sitting on the bench close to the box office about a month ago, waiting for the theatre to open, and listened to the long line of people trying to get tickets. One lady was extremely lucky as she happened to be at the window just as someone else had cancelled their tickets. She scarfed them up. At that time everyone was told that the show was completely sold out through the end of November. Only limited seats were available for December. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that this has now extended into 2009. There was a huge line of people waiting for possible cancellations for the show I was seeing. It is really a hot ticket right now!
edit: I should have added that I've seen the show twice from the loge and the seats were excellent. I would try to avoid the far sides - but otherwise I thought they were perfect.

Thank you so much for the research. From what I understand, it is playing at the Vivian Beaumont theatre, which I assume would be the box office? If so, then I have an idea of where to go. I haven't been to that particular theatre, so I'm very eager to go.
I'm assuming it will be extended into 09 so I will try for Jan -Feb. As with any show I go to, I always look for orch seating because I have balance issues when it comes to elavated seating, esp. when seating is high and on slants.
Just curious, have you tried the Lincoln Center tours? I understand there are times etc, however, I'm curious as to how it is; do you have to wait for a group to be collected, make appointments, or is it jsut going during the times and if it's only 2 or a group of 22, it'll still go on? I'm just clueless with these things! Thanks!

Well, the show is now running through April 2009. So, you shouldn't worry about it not extending through 2009.
The box office is downstairs from the main entrance of the theatre. There is actually a neon sign saying "Box Office" with an arrow pointing right down the stairs you need to take.
I went to the box office a week and a half ago to see if I could get a single ticket for myself before November 30th, when Paolo Szot takes his leave of absence. I was fortunate enough to get a single ticket for tomorrow night for $75. It's in the loge and to the right from center (house right). The man working the box office said, without hesitation, "Oh, probably not," when I asked, "Do you have any single tickets available for the near future?" But, to our surprise...there was one!
Just go to the box office and ask in person and try your luck! I've never seen the show and I can't wait! The Vivian Beaumont isn't that large of a theatre. So, I'd imagine every seat in that theatre being a good seat. Everytime I've seen a show there I've been down in front. This is my first time in the loge, so we'll see.
Good luck!

Thanks again. I actually wasn't too worried about not seeing it because I did read it was going to extend.
I will go as soon as I save, or have some disposible income. But I'm very excited either way - I've never seen any production for South Pacific, and I know a song or two from the musical itself. And, of course, excited to see the theatre itself. So, if snow and bitter temperatures don't keep me indoors, I will most likely look to go after Christmas or early Jan!

Posted: 11/19/08 at 9:45pmJust a word of advice, when you go try to give yourself some extra time (should you already be in a rush) because there is almost always a line at the box office. It's even worse from 12-2 when everyone is on their lunch breaks.
