My oh my.
I'm not sure that, when tackling your first ever onstage musical role, you should start as Mame. in Mame.
and what's w/ the wearing the body mikes taped onto your cheek and stuck near your mouth? you could hear everyone breathing. I'm talking about the type of mic's designed to be hidden in wigs, not the Rent/Britney Spears headsets.
I'm still trying to deal with Linda Dano as "Mame".
Linda Dano as Mame. hehe thanks for the laugh.

I saw this on Sat. While I appluad the fact that Buck County Playhouse has finally a show that is selling out. I wanted to leave at intermission, but my car was blocked in. It was a piece of crap. One of the worst shows I have seen there in a while. Linda Dano was in Way over her head. She can not sing, she was horrible in dancing. She needs a lot of work. The cast was working hard but it was not working. Anna Stuart was ok in her role. It was just very painful.
I usually do not post such harsh reviews but it was that bad for me.
Please remember this is only my opinion. Take it for what it is worth.
And just what did you expect goin' in....Susan Lucci?

Oh, this is sooo painful! I remember the days when "The Playhouse" hosted the best of the best every summer( and I'm talking about QUITE a while ago!)- but that was long before the time when they decided to make the switch to cheesy musicals starring "soap" stars.

a quote from Ms. Dano to a CBS reporter:
<<<<
“Have I lost my mind? I don't sing, I don't dance, and I've never been on a stage, never,” said Dano.>>>>>>>
I just wonder who's idea was this? Does Bucks just throw these role offers out into the ether and see which "names" bite?
If you know you are completely unqualified for the role, Ms. Dano, what the hell are you doing in it?
When Kathleen Turner was offered the role of Norma Desmond in the LA production of SUNSET, her response was (paraphrasing): "Are you crazy? I can't sing." And that was the end of the conversation. As it should be.
Wow...and to think I was planning on seeing this...I'll spend the $$ somewhere else. I prefer the movie "Auntie Mame" with Roz Russell

perhaps Ms. Dano should have tackled the straight version first, tho I'm not sure her dialogue-whispering would have served her any better in the play. But at least we would be spared the embarassment of watching her struggle thru musical numbers.
With the exception of the other soap star, who was passable, (except for being much younger, livelier, and "Mame-ish" than Dano)and a Beauregard who seemed about as Southern as scrapple, everyone in the cast appeared to be college age, most sporting ghastly age makeup and cheap grey wigs.

What a shame that wasn't Glenn Close's response!

BUMP!
Road trip! I decided that I need to see this for myself. I will be driving to New Hope, PA to see Ms. Dano.
I really like Linda Dano. She is very charming on camera. I'm hoping her charm translates a little onto the stage.

The video of the rehearsal is a riot...up there with Wing in my opinion...
Were they drunk?
Very sad that Buck's has fallen so hard. It was such a great place for young actors to learn from seasoned professionals...noone is learning anything with this production!
Doodle, there's always something to learn...like when one shouldn't take a particular role!!!

I don't think the clip is that bad. I've heard and seen far worse MAMEs.
Linda Dano lost her husband and her mother last year (within a week, both had died). She's been battling depression, and I'm sure she took this as a way to focus on something else. No one is forcing anyone to go see it. You don't want to go, don't go.
Right on Dottie!
Beaverhausen...I thought the same thing!
MameD!
Everytime I see this thread title, I can't help but imagine Linda Dano doing Mame at a StarBUCKS!

Well I'm still going. I got driving directions from mapquest and it says 1hr and 24mins from my apt. in Brooklyn. Has anyone ever gone from Manhattan and is it a nice , uncomplicated drive?

It is a very nice drive, the area is VERY crowded especially weekends in summer, but definitely worth the trip, Chita. The worst part is when you get there and all roads are one lane...can be frustrating...not complicated tho.
I just saw her last week as Mame, I posted a review somewhere...and well, she's not very good. However, the show is great to see because Anna Stewart (sp?) as Vera Charles is amazing. I can't remember whoever played Agnes Gooch, but she was very good as well. Linda Dano though...well...some things are best left un-said. Or in her case, un-sung.
