Posted: 8/4/04 at 7:51pmI saw her concert at Wolf Trap and her voice was great but she seemed pretty detatched from the audience. Her "Man of La Mancha" was definately my favorite! Wow!

Posted: 8/4/04 at 8:06pmYeah, I love her "Broadway...My Way" CD. She's amazing! That sucks she doesn't connect with the audience, but honestly.. she could have her back turned and be wearing a mumu and I would still love it. Does anyone else think she sounds stunningly similar to Streisand?

Posted: 8/4/04 at 8:27pmOh she sounds a lot like Barbra, isn't that why she started doing Don't Rain on My Parade?

Posted: 8/4/04 at 8:31pmI have heard a few things mentioned on this forum about Linda Eder. She is giving a concert soon at Mohegan Sun Casino in CT (forgot the dates, they are on the website), but tickets are $100 - sorry not rich!

Posted: 8/4/04 at 8:33pmUgh, I was gonna try and go to that one. Guess not anymore... It was the day before the Cheno concert I am going to. I was going to try and make it a weekend of music! But not for $100.

IMO while she does sound like Streisand a LOT, I am not sure our dear Babs ever hit the notes Linda hits in Man of la Mancha and yes, it-s on her Broadway My Way CD.
However, Babs can act . . .

Like many, I've seen Linda several times in J&H, and in concerts. She possesses a wonderful "instrument" and has grown extremely popular with her fans. She IS a doll!
Belting is not that hard. Belting well IS. It can sound like a siren and many do! Belting requires balance and knowing when, how long and how often to choose to execute it that makes a difference It's the softer, jazzy, ballads, blues that are a challange for many singers, male and female.
Same as the "money" note, the one that everyone expects to hear at every concert. I wouldn't want to be known just for my belt or money note. If I were a performer, I'd focus on every aspect of performing and coach as often as needed, even after I was a hit!
I would like to see Linda explore a new style. Keep a few of the belting songs. Vienna, A New Life and Gold are 3 of my favorite songs that best represent her soft and belting side. Parade and LaMancha has proven it point.
I'll Be Seeing You is a fine example of how well she can sing a soft ballad.
As much as I enjoy her...she still has yet to capture the audience with her stage presence. And I think Linda is just not the type to be all over the stage or jesture like others. It's not her style and might be unnatural for her. But there are surely more ways "draw" the audience into your performance.
Without sound like a shill, Craig Schulman truly sings from the heart and reaches the heart of his audiences...and trust me he doesn't move around all that much. This is a learned talent, but it comes from within. I'm sure you can think of others.
Lea Salonga comes to mind also, just a polished performer in every respect; practically flawless delivery and vocals that showed every facet of her style, not to mention that she had the audience in her little hands for 2 hours. She even heaped praises upon Linda Eder several times. A classy little lady!
Anyway, I am so looking forward to seeing Linda at Lenape in Sept. and covering it for you all.
sorry to get so windy...off to work.

Yes I do happen to like Linda Eder, but after seeing DRACULA, I have even more respect for her. For all that has been said about J&H, and much has been said about its poor music, the original leads were able to provide the shot of magic the show needed. People were known to stand and cheer when Eder finished her songs. At least J&H had those moments.
DRACULA needs Linda Eder or a Linda Eder type. Much has been said of Melissa Errico's acting talents and voice, but I was very disappointed with her. And she's done a lot more shows than Eder. Although her voice can be quite pretty, it's inconsistent and sounds like every other broadway soprano, and very similar to O'Hara, who btw, I liked better than Errico. Also, whereas Eder was able to bring some vulnerability to the role so that you cared when she dies, Errico brings very little to her role and I couldn't care less about her character in the show.
Of course, DRACULA is still in previews and perhaps this will change as Errico settles into her role..but so far, I'm really unimpressed.

Linda ALWAYS does Man Of La Mancha in concert, and the first notes are followed by screams from the crowd. As far as being detached from the audience, well everyone has "off" days and I have yet to see very many of those... Can't wait for Mohegan Sun!
Gotta love her!

I don't like Linda's rendition of "Some People". It bothers me soooo much. I'm so used to the phenomenal Bernadette version.
Linda does have some good twists to other songs though, and she does have a good voice. I don't know if I care so much for her as a performer though, and I don't think I would actually want to go see her in concert. I don't feel attached in any way to anything she has done. I really enjoy "A New Life" and practically every J&H song just cause the music itself is brilliant, but I think I actually like Coleen Sexton more vocally than Linda. Plus, from what I hear of her theatre abilities I am sure that Coleen is a lot better with audiences.
Why doesn't Coleen do more work?! (she will however be in the national tour of Chicago... but still)

Posted: 8/5/04 at 11:19pmWhen I saw her the other songs she sang were "Vienna", "Gold", "Don't Rain On My Parade", another song from Camille Claudel (sp?) I think, and sorry I have the worst memory and I can't remember any others!

Posted: 8/6/04 at 12:04amI love Linda!!! I think she is very comfortable on stage and makes the audience feel comfortable, too. She has a great voice. She is very down-to-earth and warm off stage, too. I've met her many times in different situations and she couldn't be nicer. I wish she were taking part in the Jekyll & Hyde in Concert program. Anytime I've seen her perform it's always been to a full house.
