re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

I liked Carolee Carmello's version better. But yes, Linda is quite excellent.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

My issue with Linda is that she looks like a zombie when she sings...and I can't help but associate her with Frank Wildhorn...

Every so oft she surprises me though. I'd like to hear that recording.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

Linda Eder is the goddess i place on high and dream of being able to sing like one day.

I absolutely love every song i've heard her sing, but my favorites are "Don't Rain on My Parade" and "Man of La Mancha".

What do you guys think about her singing male songs? They're not ones that really sound completely off sung by a woman, but does it irk anyone?

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

let's see... wildhorn has covered vampires, split-personalities, and the civil war. perhaps his next "dark" show could be about zombie wives?

pertaining to the subject- i don't think anyone should ever sing one of babs' staples. it just makes me miss the original. why mess with perfection?

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

I've heard Linda sing DROMP live in concert several times and I've also heard Babs sing it live. Thats the only way you could make any sort of comparison here I think. I'd have to say I enjoy Eder's version more. It's a true belter song and Eder is just much more of a belter than Babs. Babs may always own it, but theres really nothing like seeing Eder sing it live in concert. IMO, the only other performance I think that rivals it is Jennifer Holiday singing "And I Am Telling You".

Of course, in the past, threads like this brought out the rabid Bab's fanatics who believe Eder is some kind of copycat. You have to see Eder in concert to know this isnt the case. In fact, I think Eder has much more range than Babs, her soprano is more classically operatic and her belt more powerful. I do expect her upcoming CDs to diminish this talk..Peter Pan features Linda's classical soprano and it looks like her tribute album is going to be to Judy Garland.

Thou I do love me some Babs, I have to say that Linda's version of DROMP is drop-dead phenominal. Whether it's live or on CD, Linda truly gives me goosebumps when she sings it...... Streisand's version never did. Linda's Man of La Mancha & I Am What I Am are both fantastic too. I love me some Linda.

Thenardier.... you may want to add Linda's versions of Bridge Over Troubled Water & Storybook (from Scarlet Pimpernel) to your list..... both excellent tracks.

BTW - Linda's new disc is expected to drop in September. It will be a tribute album to a legendary artist. Rumour has it it may be a tribute album to Garland.

When Garland sang "Rockabye Your Baby", she made you forget Jolson.

When Linda Eder sings DROMP, you can't help thinking about Barbra Streisand.

Linda's GOLD CD is wonderful so if you guys don't have it, run out and get it! BROADWAY MY WAY is gorgeous too. I love her version of UNUSUAL WAY. My all time fave of hers is VIENNA!

Not only does she have a phenomenal voice, she is one of the nicest people out there. She was the only star last year at Broadway Under The Stars that made a point to go to her fans and take time to talk to them, take pics and sign autographs.

I do hope CAMILLE CLAUDEL makes it.

I love both her Parade and Man of La Mancha. She holds the fiercest note in La Mancha.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

I really like Linda's "Anthem" and "I, Don Quixote." The first time I heard "...Parade" that last note stunned me in how long she sustained it.
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

O...M...G!!!

My two favorite singers in the history of the universe are Linda and Judy! If this tribute album turns out to be what everyone expects, I will pee.

I saw Linda LIVE and she was spectacular. Her live performances are out of this world. She is such a talent! Not only that, but she truly is the sweetest person. She took her time with each person who wanted to meet her--she didn't rush anyone and was genuinely interested in what everyone had to say. She is such a doll. (And the best part is, when I met her, she asked,"You're a singer, aren't you?")

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

okay I will say it once more.

There is no one like Linda Eder. I love her. I worship here. I wish She had a 100 cds.

1. Vienna
2. Gold
3. If I had My Way
4. Even Now
5. The Bells of St Paul

Five songs that need to be listened to over and over and over and over again to know that this woman is the best!

oh yeah.. and LET HIM FLY (makes me cry every time I hear it)

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

Love her, but she has a bad habit when releasing cds of putting songs on them that she has already recorded. It really pissed me off that her Bway cd had 4 songs on it that were from other cds (A New Life, Gold, Man of La Mancha, Unusual Way). Someone Like You has appeared on more of her albums that I care to count - great song, but enough already. If I am putting $13 down for a non-greatest hits cd, I want new music, not retreads from previous cds. I think this had more to do with Frank Wildhorn than with Linda, so hopefully that will end, although if her new tribute cd is a Garland tribute, I am certain we will see Over The Rainbow and Man That Got Away on it, two songs previously released from other cds.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

I saw her in concert a few months ago (and I am going again in a month and a half!) and she held notes longer than I have EVER heard anyone hold notes. They were HIGH too!! She is incredible. And she's a nice gal, too.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

I've listened to both women sing this over and over, and I gotta say, Linda blows Barbra out of the water. For example on the "I'll march my band out" part, Linda's power is unbelievable. Barbra could never sing it like that. Linda is also a nice person, unlike someone else. She is so down to earth and humble. I can't wait for her new album.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

I simply wish Linda had the emotional connection to her material the way Babs or Judy have/had. She can't compete with them there. If she were able to, there'd be no denying her place among the pantheon of singing theatrical divas.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

Bway, I just think times are different. Had Linda started when Judy and Barbra did, I think she'd be nearly as big, although Linda doesn't seem to have the same drive that Babs or Judy had.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

That's where I just don't get the criticism. In the last two concerts I saw, Linda's emotional connection was amazing. She must've been working with an acting coach or something, she was unbelievable. She had tears in her eyes on several songs.

re: Linda Eder singing Babs' Title

Linda doesn't want to be famous, she's said it in several interviews. She is totally fine with what she has. I'm glad she's not anything like Barbra in the personality department.
