Just wanted to say what a great resource this board has become. As you could probably tell from the subject line, I have tickets to see "The Lion King" in January. This will be the first time to see this show on Broadway. The previous time was in Houston in 2002. When I looked at the current Broadway cast, I was thrilled to see that some of the main actors were in that Houston production. Needless to say, my girlfriend and I are thoroughly looking forward to that weekend.
Now, I am asking for your help. I've been racking my brain to think of a unique/magical/special thing to do either before or after the show.
"The Lion King" musical has a special place in our relationship, and I'm searching for something that would not only enhance the Broadway experience, but complement it as well.
So, fellow board members, think back to one of your favorite Broadway experiences. What was the show? Along with the performance, what made the evening so special?
Any thoughts, ideas, and suggestions would be greatly welcomed!
Happy holidays to all!

I doubt you're ready to take this step, but when I saw CATS, some guy proposed to his girlfriend onstage at intermission. That's pretty much all I remember about the show.
Maybe you could find a few people, do a few favors, pull a few strings and get a backstage tour?
give her a gift card for any item in the gift shop. if you're a fan of the show, there are LOTS of cool items.
the official site has some nice downloads: http://disney.go.com/disneytheatrical/thelionking/
oh, good idea about the backstage tour, mythus! when i saw the show th'giving weekend, they were offering tours with a donation to B'WAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS. don't know how much the donation had to be, or if they would even give such a tour in january. the tour would be awesome, though, because the stage is so complex with all the drop doors and stuff.

You should go see Brooke Tansley in BatB the same day. Two great shows in one day. If you have Matinee tickets, go to the night, or vice versa.

Thanks for such quick replys and great suggestions. The show is still a few weeks away, and hopefully I'll be able to come up with something exciting! So far, I think any of those ideas would be magical.
You could go on the New Amsterdam Tour on the morning of that date. You dont get to go backstage, but you do get to go on stage which is pretty cool. After the show, you could go to central park and take a carrage ride, cliche yes, but romantic none the less.

Thanks chinkie...a nice suggestion as well. So many things to choose from...
chinkie's suggestion is great. i didn't know they gave a daytime tour. that would be nice! they did an awesome job of restoring an extremely historic theatre
yes, a carriage ride ... OR one of those rickshaw bicycle rides is nice. we did it over th'giving and had a cute bulgarian boy pedal us around
lovely to see STRAWBERRY FIELDS (memorial to john lennon) and BETHESDA FOUNTAIN (with the beautiful angel).

There's certainly a lot to choose from. A tour of the Amsterdam would be nice, so would pretty much everything that has been suggested. There doesn't appear to be a shortage of great ideas!

I say go see Brooke. Seeing her in Beauty is so much better than anything else you can do. She is Belle.

Except for the part where they're seeing Lion King, not Beauty and the Beast, saddle.

I was saying see both shows.

I know, but he's asking for things that will enhance their experience of seeing Lion King, and I think seeing another show will actually detract from it.

I appreciate all the suggestions. Seeing "BatB" might be difficult to pull off for that day. I've been reading that Brooke is amazing in that production, but two shows in one day might be a little overwhelming. cheers! Updated On: 12/12/04 at 09:32 PM

Does one need to be part of a large group to do the tour of the Amsterdam theater? I just don't know if the tour is just for groups and/or individuals.
