Lippa's Wild Party

Why didn't it do well? I am in LOVE with the Cast recording and I know that the other version probably gave it some competition, but Lippa's is FAR superior...any chance it could pull a "Family Guy" and return to NYC or even upgrade to Broadway???

I love the score, but to answer your question about pulling a FAMILY GUY: no.

"Why didn't it do well?" It was only a limited engagement, playing its intended run but not extending or transferring to Broadway, because LaChiusa's version of "The Wild Party" was playing on Broadway at the time. Don't look for it to come back any time soon, though.

re: Lippa's Wild Party

Hmm...I dunno...I'm kinda partial to LaChiusa's version... The music is wilder and more appropriate for the story... I just did the show last fall, so I did my research and stuff, I was the musical director. I love LaChiusa's and I think it's a shame that that version didn't do well, although I can see why it didn't. ~Steven

They are both amazing and different, composed of great casts and by great writers. However, I do not get the FAMILY GUY reference. What is that supposed to me?

re: Lippa's Wild Party

Well I was thinking about going out and buying the cast recording this weekend but does anyone who knows a little bit more about it then I do think its worth the money? Or should I invest in something else...

re: Lippa's Wild Party

YES!! Definitley buy it...I'm addicted. At first, I only liked the catchy songs like Wild Party and The Juggarnaut...but now I Listen to the WHOLE thing all the way through...pretty much every song except for 1 or 2 is FANTASTIC..It's the best recording I own. re: Lippa's Wild Party

re: Lippa's Wild Party

I like the Lippa Wild Party but I hardly think it's superior AT ALL to Lachiusa's much less far superior. I found The Broadway cast much more interesting. The casting was interesting to see (i.e black wasn't a black guy, you couldn't tell what race he was). I think the music is more appropriate also, esp the orchestrations. They're pretty different though. I think Lippa's a little popier. I personally say buy them both, then compare them. Then buy the poem and compare it all. It's really quite interesting to see. I hope it doesn't come back for a good 30 years. We just need more NEW things. Lippa's Wild Party will have plenty of regional productions. How about NEW Lippa?

re: Lippa's Wild Party

I like Lippa's more contemporary take on the story. I think the music is "younger" and reaches out to more of a younger generation, where as Lachiusa's version to me just sounded older and the cast were older and just didn't appeal to me as a teenager. I would love to see Wild Party revised on Broadway or hell, Off-Broadway sometime soon, but I doubt it will.

re: Lippa's Wild Party

But that's what I loved about LaChiusa's, how the music was contemporary to the story and time period, and how he incorporated vaudeville into the show.

re: Lippa's Wild Party

I suppose. I just think Lippa's songs were catchier and appealed more to my generation. I know it was set in the Vaudeville era, but i love the use of electric guitar and I just think the music is beautiful. And i had to sing "what is it about her" for an audition so i'm kinda partial to that song!
