I think he prefers to be called "Not-Paul-Blart."
I don't know where the blame lies, but whatever happened to "The Show Must Go On"? Think about all the actors, crew members, and stage hands who have lost jobs. And of course those subscribers wh seem to be growing more frustrated with Roundabout each season.

The understudy might, indeed, have not been ready but if so they would have only delayed the previews and not just plainly cancelled the whole show. Exact.

Somethingwicked, I agree. Especially after the flack they received for casting John Stamos and Gina Gershon (both of whom were not the most qualified people for those roles) in BYE BYE BIRDIE. And it's the fact that they cancelled the production altogether that makes me think there were some problems with it that went beyond Mullally, I'm not taking it for a "fact" that it was going to be a fiasco, just think it's a likely scenario given the circumstances.
I can't believe it's not bitter.
"but whatever happened to "The Show Must Go On"?" no matter how crappy it's going to be?
There were OBVIOUSLY bigger problems than just Megan leaving if they cancelled the whole thing.
And I'm sure Megan didn't think that by dropping out of the show, they would cancel it. So, to say she should have done it for the cast and crew is ridiculous.

Wow Miss NYC, much as I love Megan and am sure she had good reason to do this, that's the biggest fairytale I've heard you tell yet!
OK...just had my first "laugh out loud" moment of the week, courtesy of POCKETSQUARED!
"I can't believe it's not bitter!"
Thanks for that! HAHA!

Look, Karen doesn't need the money. She has Stanley's money or Beverly Leslie's money or Jack's money or whatever that out-of-nowhere senseless plot twist at the end was; and I think TD is right. It's way more than Ratatouille and Karen. I think it suddenly occurred to them what a piffle the play is and this gave them their out without having to tell Terrence because, you know, he's been through so much.

What's all this about Mantello not directing actors well? He got Tony award performances from Denis O'Hare, Idina Menzel, Michael Cerveris, John Glover and Liev Schrieber. He got one of the most famously non-nominated performances in Tony history from Nathan Lane. He got great work from Kristin Chenoweth and from the great and glorious Jayne Houdyshell in a little off-bway play called THE RECEPTIONIST.
Yeah. He's had some ups and downs, like that unfortunate revival of THE RITZ. But when he's good, as he was when he directed the magnificent revival of ASSASSINS, to my mind quite simply the most brilliant Broadway musical theatre production of the last 10 years, and in LOVE VALOR COMPASSION and TAKE ME OUT and even WICKED, he's as good as anybody out there.
I'd rather see Joe Mantello's production of just about anything than Trevor Nunn's production of anything at all. Ever.

Er... If someone has an issue with me (?) I would gladly discuss it via private messages but not here. I am not sure the others care that much about someone's personal invectives on a public board.

Come off it Agathe from Paris,I totally understand your support of Megan but enough with the stories.
Up until this I've only heard that Mullally is a consumate professional.
Quick example: When she was doing an (otherwise forgettable) play called "The Receptionist" in Los Angeles she broke several bones in her hand one day, worked quickly with the director to re-choreograph the entire play to work with her in her cast, and then was ready to go on for the next performance.
While I agree with most of the posters here that SOMEthing else must have been going on, I'm going to give Mullally the benefit of the doubt. Chances are what was going on with her ill mother affected her decision more than what people are saying here.

I agree with you, Robert. As far as I know, Ms. Mullally is professional and doesn't give up a project for pointless reasons.
Besides, the silence of the production over the cancellation is rather odd and all we have are rumors. I wouldn't mind to get an official statement from The Roundabout but I am not sure we will ever get one.
The sure thing is that it isn't very good for The Roundabout reputation, unfortunately, and subscribers might start feeling pissed off. So many theatres close these days. Add the cancellation of a play and it makes things worse.
To SallyAnn: don't take it bad but would you mind next time, to solve your personal issues by using the private messages application? Because both of your remarks weren't pertinent at all here, having nothing to do with the subject of this thread and what you might think of a poster is none of our business. We couldn't care less about it. This is a public place. Personal issues don't have to be discussed here. Thanks.
I am guessing she won't be working with Roundabout for a long long (or never) time.

If she doesn't work with Roundabout for a long, long time, then she knows that she will always be welcome to The Odyssey. We were all very happy to count her as one of us this past summer.
Rumors are never that good because most of them result to be untrue. However I can tell you that a play isn't cancelled just because a member of the cast left.
It is too bad for the play in itself. Lips Together, Teeth Apart is a very good one that would deserve a return on stage.

This is not the first time I've heard that Joe Mantello can be hard on actors. It's too bad for the Roundabout and too bad for those of us who had tickets to see the show. I've long been a fan of Mr. McNally's work but not seen too many professional performances of his work and I was so looking forward to this.

Was this while you brewed tea for her. I don't remember seeing you there. Can you tell us more about experiences there.

You say the cast of The Receptionist weren't experienced? Not even the great Jeff Perry?
Hi, Jeff.
