I still don't get why Judy was written for a power belter. It works when we finally get to "Get Out and Stay Out" but I feel like the other numbers suffer because of Block's powerful voice. Yes Judy is eventually empowered but not for a large chunk of the show. And Block doesn't play battered Judy as easily as she played empowered Judy.
What I don't understand is why they allowed a sub-par version of Get Out and Stay Out to be on the cast recording. The version they released when the show was beginning on Broadway was much better. Stephanie seems like she is not in wonderful voice on the recording, and I don't understand why Megan was directed to make her accent so much thicker for Broadway than it was when I saw the show in LA. They must have thought she didn't sound enough like Dolly, I guess.

I know I'm in the minor here, but I thought Block was wonderful in the role. I thought she played the shy, reserved Judy well, but I didn't see a big enough change from beginning to end to make the whole part work for me, but that goes for all the characters too.
