There's a long letter on the website of Theater of the Stars that explains the situation. Basically, if they don't raise $500,000 by July 12th, they're closing up shop and all of the shows are cancelled. If that amount is raised, Dreamgirls and the national tour stop of Anything Goes will happen. Then they would need to raise an additional $500,000 for the other shows of the season to move forward. Like others have said, I seriously doubt it will happen.

Bumping this to see if anyone has seen the Networks tour recently and has any thoughts about it. I saw the original tour in LA and loved it, and the Networks version is coming to my area soon. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Probably obvious question: Do the cast, crew, etc. still get paid for today's performances?

I'm excited about seeing the show in general, but particularly about seeing Jordan Craig onstage again. I've seen him in several things, and he is inevitably the best part of whatever show he is in.

She was in the LA company for a little under 6 months, first as the standby for Eden during the last couple months of her run, then as full time Elphaba for about 4 months. She missed a sizable chunk of the performances she was scheduled for, and ended up leaving the show earlier than planned. If you look at clips on "that site" you can tell she was having a lot of problems in the role. I did unexpectedly see her final performance, and she was in very good voice (and understandably quite emot...

SPOILER Depending on the city, sometimes the reveal of Elphaba at the end is accomplished with a set piece that looks like a well that she hides behind, if the theater can't accomodate the trap door to do it the usual way.

I usually get a t-shirt, but I wait until either intermission or afterwards to make sure I actually enjoy the show or not. I only get a program if it is of the actual cast I saw (I live in Atlanta, and before that LA). I agree with others that a lot of times it is easy for the merchandise to exceed your ticket price. I love the Les Mis revival when I saw it in April, but there was no way in hell I was paying $45 for a t-shirt.

I was not a fan of her Elphaba at all, but I think she could be very good as Emma.

To my ear, Elena sounds a lot better here than on the recording from London. Looking forward to getting my hard copy in the mail this week.

The tour that is currently out is quite a bit different from the original production in some ways. Completely new orchestrations (which can be heard on the cast recording of the UK tour), new scenic design ( no turntable, use of projections), and some script cuts (the one I recall the most is Little People, which is reduced to a few lines). The biggest thing to recommend it is the cast, particularly Andrew Varela. I am sure others can be detailed about the changes, but all in all I enjoyed it.

Speaking of recouping, has Memphis announced that it has recouped yet?

I saw it on Netflix and then saw the tour. It's not a great show by any means (some of the lyrics are reallllly bad), but it's definitely entertaining. Speaking to the OP's post, I doubt Adam will tour with it, since the tour has already been up and running for a year and has played a lot of the bigger markets already. Having said that, Bryan Fenkart (who went on for Chad over 200 times) was fantastic as Huey, so if you see the tour he will not disappoint.

The article mentions that the info about having a Bess alternate is on the show's official website. Does anyone see it anywhere on there? I looked, but didn't see it.

B&N also has a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale going on at the moment. There's a pretty decent selection, and it includes a lot of recent recordings (Follies, Newsies, Once, etc.). Worth a look.

A great time can be had with a glass of your favorite adult beverage and the DVD commentary with Chris Columbus, Adam, and Anthony. If you take a drink every time someone says "that should have been nominated", you'll be in danger of alcohol poisoning by the end.
