...and it sounds amazing!!!
Thoughts?
I preordered it and I've had it for a while now. I love it. The more you listen to it the more you get out of it. I took it to work with me but I had to take it home because I spent all my time listening to it instead of the work. It's a keeper!
Yay! I'm excited to purchase this now!
Definitely worth the wait!! :)

I didn't care for it. I really usually enjoy LaChiusa - he can be tough, but after a few listens it usually grabs me and I can see the complex melodies, but I just can't get into this. It sounds so dated. Maybe that's the point, but I don't care for it. It just reeks of early 90s, and I can't really grasp the story.
I got my CD weeks ago, but I still haven't listened to it. I guess it just took so long to finally get that when it got here I lost interest. I dunno when I'll ever find time to give it a listen.

I just listened to it tonight.
Personally, I think it's terrific.
It made me think.
LaChiusa always makes me THINK. "First Lady Suite" made me THINK. "Hello, Again" made me THINK.
Which to my mind, is always a good thing.

I enjoy this recording as well. I have to be honest though, I prefer my "unofficial" recording of the show.

It made me think - well, day dream. I might give "First Lady Suite" a chance. I personally find that a brilliant choice for musical material, so that at least interests me.

If you have trouble relating to it, I recommend reading the two original Deborah Eisenberg short stories that it's a combination of in the short story collection Transactions in a Foreign Currency (the stories are Flotsam and Days though the whole collection is a wonderful read).
I think the cast album and musical is *wonderful* though I admit it doesn't hjave an instantly appealing song the way many LaChiusa scores have had that helps you get into the more difficult music easier (the way, say, Tom did on Hello Again). It's been probably my most played new cast album of the year--but I admit to being a big LaChiusa fan.
Now we just need Nutcracker, Petrified Prince, Highest Yellow, Friends and Lovers and the upcoming Giant, recorded

Oy! Naomi Plume in her Holiday Gift Guide on here just gave Little Fish's CD one star and had this illuminating review:
"I just don't get it. Worthy? Maybe. Interesting? Perhaps. Illuminating? Absolutely not. Without merit? Ditto."
Without merit? Wow--I can see some not liking it but, wow. Especially as she just finished recommending as GREAT and "mind expanding" The Story of Christmas as Sung and Told Tennessee Ernie Ford. Bah humbug
Ooo... maybe I'll listen to it now that I know people don't like it. I tend to like shows most people hate.

Well I like it lol. Oh well :P I jsut find it a bit extreme to say recording any new musical, by a fairly important musical talent, is "without merit". I did see that in another review she refered to LaChiusa's Wild Party as "the bad one"--when I vastly prefer it, so maybe we just have diff taste :P
