I saw the musical last night and I had a wonderful evening.

Some thoughts: The first act was stronger than the second. Melissa Gilbert was strong as the mother, but her song "Wild Child" was awful. It must be cut!

The actress who played Laura (Kara Lindsay) was wonderful, she really captured the character and had an amazing voice.

Nellie (Sarah Jean Ford) stole the show with her comic wit. The part must be tons of fun to play, and her songs were great!

Tons of children in the audience!

Jenn Gambastese' Mary was perfectly on spot. She was exceptional. Her voice paired expertly with Kara's voice.

Melissa Gilbert- Good job, but she still needs to fine tune.

The music was memorable and I think they may have a hit on their hands.

Francessca's direction was similar to The Little Mermaid. The men all traveled in groups, and the stage was quite bare (also to reflect the expansive prairie.

The backdrops were not all dark, there were many that were light and airy.

I would recommend the show to anyone, it is well worth checking out.

Word on the street is that they may be trying to ride to New York.

I was also there last night and wrote a lengthy review (link below).

The show was pleasant enough and I think the nostalgia factor could make it successful on the road, but if they are aiming for Broadway, they need to do a lot more work. The show is pretty much a series of vignettes from the books (structured much like the books as a matter of fact) and each scene has its own little ditty. The music is fine, but unmemorable.

I'd encourage everyone in the Cities to get tickets, as the cast is absolutely BRILLIANT. Just really, really great. Kara Lindsay is just wonderful as Laura and is my new musical theater crush.

I might go again just to see any changes from the previews and to see the brilliant cast again.

I hope this transfers. This is my mother's favorite series. It was on often in our home, and I'd love to take her to this (especially with Gilbert in the cast). I think it's a great idea for a musical.

Nice review. Erika!
Thanks for sharing! It will be intersting to follow the show through whatever changes (if any) they make as it grows.

CHAD2...thanks for picking up on my earlier comments about the backdrops being so dark! I hate that, and am glad to read they mix it up a bit with a few "brighter" scenes!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL INVOLVED!

I, too, think this one should cash in on it's popularity by touring and skip Broadway until NYC demands it in a couple years!
