I know that there have been a couple of posts about the little mermaid (one in August one in January i believe--i just searched them) but I was just wondering if anyone had an update on what's going on--I was so excited when I first heard about it, but it seems like production is in a bit of a stoic state right now...any new info I've missed?

Posted: 2/29/04 at 12:51pmDisney is concentrating on TARZAN, MARY POPPINS, and their Disney Songs Musical Revue show right now, still wanting to do MERMAID but the show is not their priority. Personally, I would like to see MERMAID over TARZAN.

Logistically, Mermaid is a much harder show to pull off on stage than Tarzan though and I am sure that's why it will be done after other projects.
With Little Mermaid, A chunk of the action takes place underwater... The lead female only has her voice for, at most, 1/3rd the show, etc, etc.. There's a genuine challenge for the creative team...

Posted: 2/29/04 at 1:43pmi think more than a little bit of what gets done besides "mary poppins", which is already pretty much a done deal with cameron, is up in the air as things at disney are right now so unsettled. is eisner in or out? will comcast buy them out?

I would really like to see ON THE RECORD.
Is it correct that they are looking to use the creative team who did SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE? I thought I heard that somewhere.

Well, I think Tarzan will be interesting, especially with Adam, but I was a bit more excited about Mermaid--it's been my favorite since i was little....
Here's what I don't get--With both of these they're going to have to add a few songs to flesh it out...Now I'm not promoting the Disney takeover of Broadway, but I've always thought that Hercules would make a great musical with the songs from the movie-It would be great, and the sets could be fantastic (think everything from the underworld to mt. olympus--i could see so many fun casting options open with it-think kerry butler or idina for meg, matthew morrison for Herc, maybe christopher seiber as hades? i dunno, just my own little thoughts

Posted: 2/29/04 at 3:00pmLast I heard of it was that article in the Times (a while ago now) about the three new Disney shows, Tarzan, Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid. TLM has been one of my favorite movies since I was really young, it's so cute. If they could pull it off logistically, I think it'd be amazing on stage. I think I'd rather see Tarzan though. You all know why.
