Posted: 3/2/04 at 10:22amWicked is just too trivial in my mind - the book is dark and brooding - thats why it should have been written by Sondheim and Lapine. But there were definitely some entertaining moments - the performances were wonderful - its just the whole "scrubbed up" image of the show as compared to the book - and I will say this again, if a show is about Witches - they should FLY. With the technology available out there - I can see no reason that Elphaba couldn't sit on that broom and fly out over the audience. It just makes no sense to me. Look at the revival of Peter Pan a few years ago at the Marriott - the flying was wonderful - really spectacular.

Um hi again,
ok, not that this is a wicked post, because like 500 people would shoot us if we continue talking about it but....I saw wicked with broadwaykate, and i thought it was fantastic, from idina to the set everything sailed smoothly...i do agree however that it is much lighter than the book, but that has already been discussed before in previous posts.
always

Umm, i love these boards, they're kinda hysterical, especially when there are kangaroos in water, major points to joey and redhot for keeping things amusing...

(and the flying-i was expecting more of it too, but eh, it was still excellent without it in my book)

Posted: 3/2/04 at 8:25pmI know that Disney uses flying by Foy Enterprises in Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, AND Aida. I PRAY that they bring in ZFX Flying Illusions for Little Mermaid. ZFX IS a new company (they did the last Peter Pan revival and will do the next), but there work COMPLETELY outshines Foy. And speaking from my own experiences, ZFX Is a LOT better for the actors. I have flown with ZFX and I have flown with Foy. ZFX's harnesses are VERY comfortable (relatively speaking and all things considered) and you can move in them. Foy's harnesses are like medievel leather torture devices.

Posted: 3/2/04 at 9:07pmthey may be more comfortable, but they are the same folks who did the flying in wicked which is no great shakes as far as i'm concerned.

Posted: 3/3/04 at 9:02amflying in Wicked? where? when? all i saw was a bunch of swinging monkeys...

Posted: 3/3/04 at 9:09amyeah - there was no flying in Wicked - the monkeys hop up and down on very visible supports and when Elphaba Defies Gravity - she stands on a platform and rises into the air as her dress and cape get longer - its the weirdest kind of "flying" I've ever seen....
