Speaking of Night Music, has any footage of the original turned up? I was going through my Aronson book this morning. What a glorious production! I truly help LCT decides to revive this. I doubt the Roundabout would put on such a lavish production. In fact, after this revival of Pal Joey, I don't think I want to see another Roundabout show again.

But honestly, does Pal Joey entirely erase the memory of She Loves Me, Cabaret, Assassins, The Pajama Game, 110 in the Shade, and Sunday in the Park?

Harry Connick and Kelli O'Hara made The Pajama Game. Otherwise it was just another Kathleen Marshall cheese-fest.
Sunday and Pacific Overtures were transfers Stephen Sondheim thought they ought to put on.
Cabaret was a transfer I believe Kander and Ebb suggested they put on.
110 in the Shade was mediocre.
She Loves Me was charmless.
Assassins was a rare, brilliant exception.
And Pal Joey was such a disaster it makes me not want to go back to the Roundabout, at least for a little while.

I didn'w want to start another thread on Night Music, but I just had to start a discussion about it again.
Can anyone top Glynis Johns? Really. I recently discovered the recording of her singing "Send in the Clowns" at the Sondheim: A Musical Tribute concert right after Night Music opened and it gets me everytime. It's brilliant, utterly brilliant.

She doesn't sing Send in the Clowns on that album. Here is the video from a different concert.

Omigod, thanks, jv! I had no idea!
And PB--doesn't he have a lovely gentle way of teaching? That's what he was like when he taught us at NYU. Pity that he didn't like teaching. It was such a gift to listen to him.

I had no idea until this afternoon and then I heard her and broke down in a mess of tears. Aside from the entire concert being beautiful, her performance in particular was stunning. It's a shame they didn't put it on the actual album.
