Do you think Little Shop is going to survive the winter?
I hope it will...

I don't think even the producers of LSOH can 100 PERCENT Guarantee that it will be open...
Not that I wish it ill-will, but ANYTHING could happen.

Posted: 2/10/04 at 1:57pmLSOH is one of my favorite shows and this production is excellent. I have heard that they have completed a great new commercial which is going to air shortly. They have not done any TV advertising.I would be more concerned with Wonderful Town and other musicals which have a high break even point. Hope they all survive. Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!!!

Posted: 2/10/04 at 2:02pmI think it'll hang in there. But I don't know how well it will do with awards. Probably not well.

Posted: 2/10/04 at 2:10pmI would agree with you on that. Perhaps the exposure will boost more sales from people around the country visiting and service the possibility of a tour better as well.

Posted: 2/10/04 at 2:10pmWell, I for one hope that the show does really well. How close is it to recouping its investment? Does anyone know?

Posted: 2/10/04 at 3:35pmI'm sorry...but...LSOH has not been doing very well for some time now...it is a good show, but I don't expect it to last much longer. And plus, if they are gonna close an awesome show like Gypsy (whose grosses have only dipped within the last couple of weeks) then they damn well better close LSOH...

that is an incredibly spiteful thing to say against ANY production.
And despite what one thinks about either production - operating costs are different for every show - it's apples and oranges.

Posted: 2/10/04 at 5:25pmI also agree that both Wonderful Town and LSOH will survive this brutal winter and make it to the Tonys. LSOH was wonderful plus it has a devoted clan of sci-fi freaks, Kerry Butler lovers, and can be considered a family show. I have yet to see Wonderful Town but I heard it is amazing and a great revival, but now I think Fiddler will snab the Tony award. I think the shows to worry are the longer running ones that are doing bad.

Posted: 2/10/04 at 6:10pmLittle Shop has been a little shaky.. I think we have to wait till next weeks, and maybe even the week after. They will def. get the touristy crowd in the summer and it will probably get a lot of nominations which they could advertise, it just wont win any. I bet they hold out a little longer.

I hope this "BRUTAL" winter period doesn't last to long, it has certainly been taking it's toll!
See Ya!

Posted: 2/10/04 at 7:09pmThew two highest grossing shows are Producers and then Wicked. I'm more concerned about Wonderul Town nd Thoroughly Moder Millie. They are getting into serious trouble. Aida has been getting bad his. But that was BEFORE the winter. Produers is the oy show overselling. Before there were like 8. I find that very depressing.

Posted: 2/10/04 at 7:37pmAgain,I'm shocked that it's open *now* when it's barely at 50%.

Am I the only one who thinks the whole 'brutal winter' thing hints of an excuse by producers? This is hardly the worst winter on record and shows always dip in mid-January/early-February. Is there any show that was a hit before that's suddenly dipped below the Mason Dixon line and is in unforseen danger of closing?
I *doubt* 'Little Shop' is that expensive to run. I wouldn't be all surprised to find it's fine for the time being.

I agree that LSOH will get many Tony nominees but no wins. I hope it stays open for a little while longer. It wasn't the best show I've seen, but it was definately worth more than a few months.
bernadette88-To WANT another show to close just because one of your favorite shows is closing is just wrong. LSOH didn't cause Gypsy to close, and neither did the people who have worked very hard in it. Why any one would want ANY show to close is beyond me, but your reason was ridiculous.

not sure what the nut is on lsoh, but i disagree w/ the person who posted that it can't be that big. there are (i think) a dozen performers & all kinds of costumes & moving bits & insurance & more stagehands than i have ever seen for a bway show. (disclaimer: that doesn't mean they have the most, just more than i have ever seen.) that is to say: this ain't a cheap show! i surely hope it runs for a long time because it is a terrific show. perhaps w/ 5 shows closing this month, people who resisted it will give it a shot. maybe all the so-called "freaks" from taboo who spent hundreds of dollars on tickets each & every week of its run will transfer their allegiance to lsoh!

Posted: 2/11/04 at 11:28amthe nut for the show is not that large. as musicals go it is a cheap show to run. as for the amount of stagehands, it is a small crew.
