Is the LITTLE WOMEN tour worth going to? I wanna see it cause the cast recording was very good. I know none of the original cast has returned other than Maureen Mcgovern, who I'd love to see sing DAYS OF PLENTY live. Is rush really hard to get or are tickets fairly cheap. I saw one reviewer say they were 22 dollars?
Anyone go to see it in Philly yet?

It starts tonight in Philly. I contemplated going. I called the theater earlier and they said they didn't know if they were going to have rush or not.

I vote yes. I was at LW several times on Broadway and never made it through Days of Plenty without crying. Maureen is amazing. I encouraged my sister to see it this past week in Birmingham, AL. She didn't think it would be her kind of show but ended up REALLY enjoying it. Also from the bway cast are Andrew Varela (bway understudy, on tour he is Prof Bhaer) and Julie Foldesi (Sutton's standby, currently covering several shows a week as Jo on tour).
I hope you like it. I wish I could go to Philly!

Oh great. I hope they do. I wanna go Saturday night.
Quibbler- you gotta let me know if you do indeed go & if they do have rush.
The cast is amazing! You should definitely go. Hearing Maureen Mcgovern's "Days of Plenty" and "Here Alone" is worth the price of admission.

I definitely recommend it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw it on Broadway and then on tour and it was wonderful both times. I was a little nervous about seeing the tour because Sutton was... Sutton, but Julie was great. It's especially good if you already like the story. Plus Maureen is worth the price of a ticket. By the way, what's up with her covering so many of the shows? Everyone who I talked to who saw it in Atlanta had her.

Yes- I was not a huge fan of the show per se, but the cast was incredible and worth every cent.
I got a free ticket and asked for my money back. No way!!

I really enjoyed it. And that's coming from someone whose favorite shows are BARE and RENT. The sets and lighting are amazing as is the entire cast. Anyone know why the regular "Jo" is missing so many shows? I'm sure there's a good reason, but I just didn't know why.
In Birmingham, AL they had a student rush. 90mins. before the show and they sell you whatever is left. I ended up getting like row F in the Orchestrat for $20 - $22 with tax.
I saw it on broadway and loved it. Have my tickets for the show on Friday in Philly. And we have 2 original members of the cast and an understudy from the original cast, that are in the tour cast. So that's exciting !
The tour cast is really, really good. I don't think the story is extraordinarily well-told (book or songs), but it's pleasant enough and the strong cast makes it more than worthwhile.
From what I understand from the Little Women blog (which isn't loading for me right now or I'd link to it directly), Kate Fisher is in the process of getting knee surgery.

The cast is the strongest part of the show. The score is fine, the book is fine, the sets are impressive, but the only thing that really stands out is the cast. And do they EVER stand out. Go see it. :)
I have seen almost every broadway show tour in Baltimore in the past two years.
My opinion: for $22, you can go. Otherwise, save your money for something better.
It is a very boring show. I love "little women" story and two movies, but not this musical. The book is bad. The score is bland. The characters are hard to make me feel them and connect to them. Basically, I agree Ben Brantley's NYTimes review although I am a big Sutton Foster fan.
Really disappointed.
Interesting you say that -- I'd never read the books nor seen any movie of Little Women before I saw the musical, but I thought the musical was certainly not boring. Not riveting. But not boring.

I guess we just have different tastes because I didn't find it boring at all. Everything was great. I really like the score. Its catchy without being too poppy and the live orchestra was a nice change. I've never read the book or seen any of the movies and I followed the story fine. I'm sure its different, but I thought the book worked for the show. I would have happily paid more than $22, but I'm a poor college kid, so that was just the right amount :)

Also, i was watching a video on another website and I noticed that they changed the set for "Take a Chance on Me" - it doesn't have the light posts, or did I just over look that? Why would they keep those out? seems like such a small detail and an easy thing to travel with...oh well, maybe I just didn't notice. Did they have the big curtain too?
It depends on the venue. Not all theatres have room for the light posts. Sometimes they have to change the backdrops a bit, too.

I may not be 100 percent accurate but this is my understanding of things...
Kate Fisher who is regularly Jo is on medical leave. The tour understudy is Susan Spencer but because of this special situation Julie Foldesi was brought in as well. I know Julie definetly covers Thursday evenings and Saturday matinees and if there is a Sunday evening, she does that show as well. I've seen Sutton and Julie, never seen the tour. So I haven't seen Susan or Kate but hear they are both fabulous.
So I guess I am seeing Susan Friday night?
Also, do any of you know if Maureen comes out of the stage door? I am planning on waiting at the Merriam Friday, afterwards. . Thanks.

In Ft. Lauderdale (this was a few months ago), Maureen made the Broadway Cares announcement and was in the main part of the lobby collecting money. They may not be collecting anymore (not sure what months they do that), but she was very visible and accessible. You could see how much she loves the show and really cares about her role and the cast. She was very genuine.
As for Jo, Susan was listed in the Playbill as the main Jo, not the understudy when we saw it. She was excellent.
I thought the book was very weak as well, but the cast's talent made up for it.
Maureen doesn't always come out the stage door. Sorry!
But do try to meet the rest of the cast, too. They're a hoot. :)
Like this guy!
I was quite bored with the tour. Maureen Mcgovern is fantastic, but there is not enough of her in the show to make me see it again.
I loved it. The cast is wonderful.

why wouldn't they have room? seems like the light posts aren't very big?
