Have any of you seen Little Women lately? I guess the new show curtain has arrived. It features pages from Jo's journal. How does it look? For some reason, show curtains have such a huge affect on me, as they should with everyone.
Speaking of show curtains, does The Producers have one (Max tour)?

Posted: 1/19/05 at 4:26pmthe curtain is beautiful! its pages of her stories falling with a beautiful cloud background. When the show starts, the front transparent layer that adds dimension flies up first leaving the letters/sky. Then the lights behind the curtain slowly come up and they fade out- really beautiful effect. it works opposite at closing...it comes down and the scene fades into the story pages. i loved the effect! lol

Posted: 1/19/05 at 5:22pmI don't remember caring for it too much. Something about the curtain plus the blue-ish design on the archway (I'm so bad on technical terms) around the stage just didn't strike the right chords with me. There was nothing wrong with it, but I felt like it almost set the wrong tone. I like the more wooden parts of the actual set because they gave it that simple home feel. The bareness was honest. The curtain and archway around it were more about beauty and color and image. Which is fine, just not my particular preference for that show. Plus the page thing reminded me of Deaf West's Big River set when it was on Broadway. But I'm too picky and have very specific tastes.

It seems like the center of curtain is lit too brightly, but that might be the camera. It is amazing how they can paint a scrim to look like that. There is a lot of backlight.
I don't know about the shade of blue/gobo that they use on the proscenium.

Ah, "proscenium." I thought that was the wrong term to use so I just said archway like the fool I am. The blue coloring really came off as out of place to me as soon as I looked at the stage. The scrim was very well lit from what I remember. Beautiful but something felt wrong with the whole thing.
BwayTheatre11, how come sometimes it says you're a Broadway Legend and other times it says Show Listings Manager?

lol not to rekindle unpleasant thoughts, but the one good think of Dracula was the curtain, I got chills when I saw it and through out the show the girls eyes would move and everything lol, yes the show was so bad I had to find pleasure in watching the curtain lol!
Anyway, I cannot wait to see Little Women next friday! YAY!

I'm not sure which PRODUCERS tour I saw, but they used the house curtain. There was no show curtain, but when I think about it, I really can't imagine anything else for PRODUCERS.
And I agree show curtains can be really powerful. It's all about charging the atmosphere even before the show starts. The Little Shop curtain is great. Simple, but effective. And I loved the lights all changing during the voice over prologue. Some shows like CATS are better without a curtain, just having the junkyard lit gloomily is a huge charge, but yeah... there's nothing worse than a dud show curtain. the TITANIC one comes to mind... that was dumb.

Bway11 - the tour that came thru Columbus last month used the Ohio Theatre's house curtain which is incredible in itself. I was glad to see it, you only get to see it during the Summer Movie series. Beautiful red velvet with a gold patteen, long twisted worm fringe at the bottom and gold garland ropes with tassles every 8 feet or so...

Posted: 1/20/05 at 1:04amthe curtain was really great, beautiful... however i agree that it did seem out of place and very detached from the actual show, but maybe that's supposed to represent how the show/story has meaning throughout the ages?
