Okay - she's a bit heavy, but nothing like she has been in the past. She also wasn't dressed in a way to flatter her body at all.
She came out and they talked about Arrested Development and showed a clip. Then they talked about her dad, and showed a clip of her and her mom on the Judy Garland Show. She is quite shaky, often hiding her hands in her lap because they are shaking quite a bit. Tony mentions Fred Ebb, and she talks about her audition for Flora, but keeps it together.
She and Tony sing a New York medley - yes, you heard me. Then he steps away and Billy Stritch starts New York, New York, at which point I almost lost it. Liza looks to the heavens and says, "Thank you, Freddy," and sings the **** out of the song, as much as she can these days. Audience stands and screams.
Tony comes over and hugs her, and it's at this point that she loses it. And I almost do too...

Speaking of Liza, does anyone know if she's going to return to "Arrested Development"? I think that's the best thing to happen to her career in a long time.

Yes! I don't know what the writers were smoking when they came up with having Liza on that show, but whatever it is, I want some of that. I agree with you, it is pure genius. I think she was robbed on an Emmy nod for best Guest Actress this year...unless she wasn't on the ballot or some other technicality like that.

For some reason, the producers did not submit her for an Emmy. Which is a crime!! The first time I saw her on that show, I said she was an Emmy waiting to happen. I have no idea what they were thinking.

What a shame. I think she would have been a shoo-in to win. The Television Academy would have loved to award her one, IMO.

She's in NYC for last night's 80th birthday shindig for Bobby Short at the Rainbow Room. We half expected her to sneak into the last BFO but she stuck to her guns...plus, with Fred Ebb's passing the last thing she needed was a Broadway show portraying herself during her Flora era.
