Liza approves Judy Garland bio musical — Page 2

The show already has a family friend/friend of the estate working in the show. Her, well, estate is very strict about what is or is not released and often insist on whitewashing so the story deters from the tragic storyline.

Whenever I have read or heard reviews, it sounds like a fun show that dips its toes in the more serious topics of her growing up but doesnt fully invest in them. Which, in my opinion as a huge JG fan, is for the best. I dont think her initial years were as dramatic as those to come. A good example being the TV film with Judy Davis, Me and My Shadows, which I highly recommend. They give the more serious parts their attention and then move on, because things werent bad yet. She was just a girl from Minnesota trying to break into the movie business.

Her estate has a history of either not giving approval, or cancelling the release of things altogether because they didn’t approve. Many, many, many concerts, albums, etc. have been left on the chopping block after being announced or worked on for a while. Obviously for things such as End of the Rainbow they can’t, but they make their opinions known when they don’t like something in regards to Judy because they don’t like to focus on the more serious or depressing parts of her story. The main reason Liza’s “approval” is getting press is because the estate has been a part of this show from the beginning and it’s all PR. This wasn’t a random production that they wanted to give a thumbs up.

Fir a lot of artists, fans would like to pay attention to things that the families or estates give approval to or speak well of. No one ever said it was a requirement, that’s why there are those God awful Lifetime biopics. A lot of people have the impression that Liza’s statement means this is a legitimate representation that should be given attention, when that isn’t always the case really.

If for some reason it’s not clear - I’m agreeing with your previous posts in this thread, not disagreeing.
