a young Lois Smith with James Dean in East of Eden in 1954. if you haven't seen the film 'Please Give' - you should for Lois's brave performance.
She won the National Board of Review Best Supporting Actress award for Five Easy Pieces in 1970. she lost out on the Oscar nomination to her co-star Karen Black.
I also love her supporting role in the film 'Twister' .
^If that's James Deen, I did NOT know he was that old judging by The Canyons!
I love Lois Smith! Such a wonderful actress.
She was beautiful in East of Eden.
And aged gracefully!
And was great in "The Grapes of Wrath" as Ma Joad with Gary Sinese:

I think it's funny Lois is currently appearing at the Mark Taper Forum in Marjorie Prime at the same time Cicely Tyson is doing The Trip to Bountiful there.
If Lois's production of Trip to Bountiful had transferred to Broadway she would have won the Tony. Lois is a sweetheart so I'm sure there's not a rivalry between her and Tyson though.

She was fantastic in The Grapes of Wrath. The entire cast was perfect. Somewhere I have that performance on VHS. I've got to find a way to transfer all my videotapes.
I remember falling madly in love with her when I saw her on Broadway in Grapes of Wrath.

Lois has been wonderful in anything I have seen her in. Does anybody know if she ever played Miss Daisy?
