Posted: 1/31/06 at 9:58amThanks. Isn't the Cambridge where the original "Chicago" played in London?

Posted: 1/31/06 at 10:04amIt is. Hopefully it'll provide a shot in the arm to the show which is looking extremely tired and has been relying soley on casting talentless 'celebrities' to sell tickets...

Posted: 1/31/06 at 10:04amI think so. They are also the theatre that turned down hosting the revival in the first place. And also Mamma Mia. Smart moves, those.

Amen, Eastwickian. I had the misfortune of seeing the show last April, when Brooke had just started and the German lady (name slips my mind) was playing Velma. The cast was phoning it in, Brooke was uncomfortable as hell (people claim she improved greatly during this and her subsequent Bwaya run though) and the audience was NOT responding. Are there any cast switch-ups on the horizon?
What's the location of the Cambridge? Is it close to the Strand or Piccadilly?

Posted: 1/31/06 at 10:12amIt's right on Seven Dials, in Covent Garden, just up from the Donmar. And was the German lady perhaps Anna Montanarro?

Posted: 1/31/06 at 10:23amYES, Anna Montanaro. She had so much energy and her dancing was sharp, but she wasn't very effective in the American accent (more of a German drawl) and unfortunately her charisma couldn't save that show.

It's great that CHICAGO will still be living in the Westend. This just proves the Weisslers wouldn't close it on Broadway anytime soon.
The CHICAGO cast in London and on Broadway changes VERY often. I'm sure the cast is very different from when you saw it, Tiff.
I hope Evita transfers! I'm curious on how Elena will be.

Re Chicago Cast
Linzi Hately has returned as Roxie. She is the best I have ever seen in this role. Even better than Ruthie (who played Velma opposite her last time around). Anyway well worth checking out.
And Debbi Kurup as started as Velma. Terrific triple threat who knocked my socks off as Mimi a while back and also managed to make Fame bearable (although that tour cast had so many up and coming stars in it)
Oh and I am told the original Che, David Essex is joining as Billy Flynn once Darius leaves.
