Posted: 5/26/13 at 1:10amThis could be posted on the London Board. But does anyone think Once or Charlie will win all of the English theatre awards ???? for best new musical. I just think BOM will not win over there . Thoughts

Posted: 5/26/13 at 3:53amI think it will be pretty split! Best actor going to Declan Bennett in once. Alot of the technical awards going to Charlie, best actress going to alexia Khadime and best supporting role to Stephen Ashfield (both in Mormon) then Mormon to take home best new musical!

Posted: 5/26/13 at 3:58amI think that it's just the beginning of the season, so this is a stupid question. Something else could come in during the next 7 months and win.

Posted: 5/26/13 at 4:18amOh yes I realise I am being purely speculative and am probably very wrong, but there is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun!

Posted: 5/26/13 at 4:25amI was talking to the original poster who implied that all the awards would go to one or some of those 3 shows. But there are many things that haven't even been announced yet.

Three major contenders have already opened, BOM, Once and Charlie (though still in previews, but early reports and buzz are very positive). The Commitments and From Here To Eternity are the only other major musicals confirmed for this season.
It may be an early stage in the season, but I don't think it's stupid at all to start speculating, if anything, I just think the race is off to a very good start, especially as we already have two Tony winners in the running.

Awards in London arnt as much of a big deal as they are in NYC, that said next years will be the most interesting in years.
Charlie is getting mixed word of mouth so far, so a lot will depend on when it opens, and Once may not even be open by the time the awards come round and could be forgotten.
I think if Charlie gets strong reviews then that could well be a strong contender over Mormon
Also it will vary depending on the awards, for example the audience voted Whatsonstage awards, which are getting more of a profile these days, has a cut off of November I think, where as the Oliviers will be in April next year
New Musicals
Book of Mormon
Once
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Commitments
From Here To Eternity
ALWs Stephen Ward (rumoured to be opening late this year/early next)
I Cant Sing (the X Factor musical) - may or may not meet the Olivier cut off, im not sure
Revivals
Merrily We Roll Along (probably a dead cert unless something amazing comes along)
The Sound of Music (Open Air Theatre)
Barnum (likely transfer from Chichester)
Miss Saigon (Often rumoured but wouldnt surprise me if it misses the deadline for 2014 Oliviers)
Assassins (rumoured revival for Trafalgar Studios in November)
