re: London on a hot tin roof.

The production in NYC was a howl for non-PC reasons: blacks attended the production in droves to see Terence Howard and laughed and behaved like they were at a Beyonce concert or a gospel mass. Mr. Williams would not be pleased.

James Earl Jones is always a must-see; Phylicia still behaves like she is Lena Horne [which she isn't]; Anika was good if misdirected. She is much better in NUMBER 1 LADIES DET AGENCY.

re: London on a hot tin roof.

I am not saying that the production wasn't good for other reasons. But, I think that this wasn't the best production of the show overall that has hit Broadway.

I do think that it could have been better had they had different direction, had someone else play Brick (when I saw Terrance Howard he clearly showed in his "performance" that he would rather be anywhere else in the world doing anything else in the world then up on the stage of The Broadhurst) and they got rid of Rashad.

Truth be told, I am actually nervous to see how Rashad will handle the role of Violet Weston when she is going to do August Osage County next month before going to London to do Cat. I, along with others on the Broadway forum, are nervous due to the fact that the show has a lot of jokes comparing whites to Native Americans and that those are things that I think will either A, just not be funny or B come out the wrong way if it they are said by someone who is black.

It is just you. While I am in favor of color blind casting it has to work. having Rashad in the role of Vi simply doesn't. Not when everyone else in that family is white. Also, if you read the script or saw the show when it was running at The National Theatre, you would notice that there are comments about Native American's in that part of the USA. I am not the only one who feels this way. If you were to go back onto the Broadway forum and search and look, you would notice that there are others the that feel the same way I do and have the same worries that I do regarding Rashad in August.

Also, I did not like her in Cat because I felt that she was just playing the same character that she was playing in her last few shows in New York and thus lacks creativitiy as an actress.

re: London on a hot tin roof.

i am not a racist. i am merely telling the truth. most people who attend Bway shows are white; having an all-black cast for CAT was a silly gimmick to attract black audiences.

James Earl Jones is so gifted and charismatic that he could play the title role in MAME and make it work. other than that it was embarrassing and Mr. Howard, who said being on Bway made him "feel like a slave," did not exactly endear himself to the community. Ms. Rose is an actress of poise and promise and let's hope continues to pursue the stage.

re: London on a hot tin roof.

I literally feel bad for the London community. Debbie Allen directed the recent Broadway production into the GROUND. It was laughable (and the audience spent most of the time laughing, I assure you). Anika Noni Rose was the only saving grace, and I wouldn't even recommend it if she was in it. It was wildly misdirected on Broadway. I felt bad that my parents had shelled out money for us to go see it.
