re: London's Edna No.3

He's not unlike Bruce Vilanch who did Edna on Broadway and he isn't known for his family based humor.
re: London's Edna No.3

He brought in good audiences in New York but the reviews fro his performance were very touch and go.

re: London's Edna No.3

He did 3 performances of 'Chicago' last year at the Cambridge (don't remember that but then I don't pay much attention to that show anymore?) and now the producers of that show are wanting him back for a full contract now that 'Hairspray' is wanting him too!

re: London's Edna No.3

I've never heard of a person going into a show, guest artiste or not, on such a short contact before. 2 or 3 weeks yes, but 3 nights!

re: London's Edna No.3

I'm waiting for real Edna to play Edna -- even though a bit long in the tooth. Of course I'm speaking of DAME Edna.

re: London's Edna No.3

Hum...Alan Carr for Wilbur Turnblad :P Which would mean them taking over Hairspray.

Everything in life...is only for now.

re: London's Edna No.3

Do we know how he was in Chicago?

And on the same subject, has Jerry Springer done his stint yet?

My experience is that Chicago's stunt-casting photos are much better than the actual performances.

re: London's Edna No.3

He was in Chicago because it was a challenge set on his programme i think. One of his programmes, or something! His rehearsal period and some of the performance was filmed, i didn't watch it, but i'm sure it's floating about somewhere.

re: London's Edna No.3

Well the producers obviously like him.
I think Jerry Springer goes in sometime in the next few weeks???
#33

re: London's Edna No.3

highlights of him in chicago were shown on his tv programme for c4 where he did a different challenge every week. he wasn't too bad. nothing a bit of fine tuning won't sort out.

can i ask when they're planning to announce this mama if he does confirm?? isn't it a bit hot on the heels of Brian's announcement???

re: London's Edna No.3

I guess they'll leave it until Aug / Sep time.
They'll make a big thing of it the week he signs (he hasn't as yet remember tho) and then it will go all quiet for Mr Conley to get the limelight.
I hope this guy doesn't do the show and we get a more family friendly name like the ones already mentioned.
Or Harvey!

re: London's Edna No.3

ok so don't bite me mama because i would sincerely love love love Harvey to come over and do it... but is he really a more family friendly name??? I only know him because of Mrs Doubtfire originally and then from Torch song triliogy and hairspray in my teens... would the 'young uns' and 'oldies' (ie granny coachloads) of today know who he is?

maybe i'm wrong? i hope i am.

i do also agree however that Justin is in the same sort of situation, only Sunday night project fans really know who he is.

Jerry Springer is 1st June to 11th July. I'm genuinely looking forward to it. I've never been particularly keen on seeing Chicago but always felt I should tick it off the list sooner or later, and casting Jerry Springer is just wrong enough to entice me through those doors. :3

Totally agree Weez. I've never seen the show, have never wanted to see the show, yet such ridiculous casting just makes me want to go catch what will probably be a live trainwreck.

Jerry Springer is "interesting" casting to say the least. It's such a shame that Chicago has almost become synonymous with stunt-casting - coz it is a FANTASTIC show (definitely one of the top five musicals in the West End). It is Kander and Ebb at the peak of their form. (and even lesser Kander and Ebb is better than the best of most songwriting teams)

I'll take Sam's word for it. I wonder if he'll lose the beard or play it like Cupid Stunt?
