When I saw A CATERED AFFAIR (Monday, the 21st) there was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SILENCE bestowed upon the theater after Tom's solo "I Stayed" (which was absolutely stunning, btw). He walks out, y'know, and Faith is just ... sitting there, looking out and over into the distance. Reflecting. That sole moment - Door slams. SILENCE. I wanted to applaud, but something told me ... "Wait for it, let this sink-in for everyone." It was the most beautiful moment - THAT and Faith's fire escape moment. Truly, truly profoundly moving, prolonged silences.

Wow...those stories are all so great.

Unfortunately for me, I live in the LA/OC area, and NOBODY knows how to go see a play without CLEARING THEIR THROATS all night long. Not even waiting for an applause break, or a loud part of the song, or making any attempt to keep it unobtrusive.

I also had someone decide to undo a velcro strap during the moment in the last scene of Phantom right after he sings "Christine, I love you".

I want to hurt these people sometimes.

I'm not sure if those who've mentioned the COMPANY revival are thinking of exactly the same scene I am, but the one that came to my mind was when Barbara Walsh just stared and stared at Raul Esparza, then finally said "When are we going to make it?" I saw the show three times and the silence was a different length each time, but one time it just went on and on and on. I almost wondered if she were doing it on purpose to see if Raul could stay in character re: Longest moment of silence in a musical you have ever had...
Thank goodness, no cell phones went off during those moments while I was there.

I think that is the part they're talking about, karen.

And the cell phone ring happened during the final performance. I will never hear "Dreidel Dreidel" the same way again.

The morning star always gets wonderful bright the minute before it has to go --doesn't it?

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this yet, but Gypsy... There are a few... There's one crazy one in the dressing room scene that gives me chills every time... and then right after Patti LuPone finished Rose's Turn (right after the last "for me") the first time I saw it, there was dead silence that lasted for like a good 30 seconds... then people stood up and just started cheering... It was amazing... Then, Patti started with her bows, etc... But it was really just incredible... Also, the "Let's Walk" in Piazza... definately...
