Hi, everyone. I'm in a contest where we have to answer trivia questions, and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, so I thought I'd ask all of you Broadway/musical theatre experts.
Apparently someone else prior to Andrew Lloyd Webber was approached to compose "Phantom Of The Opera", but they declined because they thought it would have to be too operatic. Do any of you know which composer that would be?

Maury Yeston was asked to write a version of The Phantom after the success of Nine, but wasn't sure it was the best idea for a stage show. He was in the process of writting and financing the show when Webber announced his version would open in London.
Ken Hill had a very camp version of the novel running in London which is kind of where Webber got the idea (although now he claims he decided to def sit down and do the show after buying the book at a book fair in NYC while there for Starlight Express)
