This is one I never expected to see but I am often surprised!

If they do LOTR properly, it will be a 12 hour performance.
Can Harry Potter the Musical be far behind?

I'd be less surprised if they announced Harry Potter.

i can't stand those books i think they are boring and pointless. anyway the other day my sister told me that she had read they were turning it into a musical, which really doesn't surprise me much seeing as how every movie is turning into a musical.
well, i can tell you now that i will not be one waiting in line for tickets.

That's what surprised me the most also. They can't do it justice in two and a half hours and it doesn't say anything about doing it as multiple shows. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.
Didn't the studio want it to be one movie and Peter Jackson pushed for three?

It's remotely nice to know I'm not the only one who really never got into HP or LOTR... I just don't understand the following. The same way my mother scared herself ****tless watching "The Ring" and had to go to sleep with all the lights in the house on... but yet I watched it and couldn't believe she was scared by THAT.
CJR, who is very well aware that she has issues lol

I, personally LOVE both these series of books! Yes, I am a huge dork. Anyway, as freakin' cool as it would be to see two of the things I love most in life combined (the dorky books and musical theater) I just really don't see it working! Yes, Peter Jackson even switched production companies when pitching LotR because they were trying to make him do it all in one movie. There's no WAY the entire trilogy could fit into one show and not completely destroy the story. Oh, well! I guess we'll have to see.

Don't hold your breath. I seriously doubt this will ever really happen. Remember that dozens of these projects are announced every year, and only a few of them ever get off the ground.

Gollum could be played by Alan Cummming, I think he has the skill to pull it off very nicely.
Also I can see LOTR work, even if they cut it, if they cut it right it will work, also it would be best as an operetta, Umm trivia did you know that the LOTR is actually not a series???

I hope to god that they scrap Schrek the musical.

Schrek would be a great musical, Come on Crazy8, it appeals to both kids and adults, and live would be hilarious.

I just think that it would be REALLY hard to pull off right. If done correctly, it could be great show.

You think shrek will be hard to pull off?!
Its full of potential, the songs will allmostt right themselves, and the costumes will be great. I don't think that the show could even come close to being F'ed up

remeber though, that the ones that seem to be full of potential sometimes end up being the trckiest ones. I just feel sorry for whoever plays Schrek. Following Mike Meyers isn't easy to do.

1. Lord of the Rings already has a creative team
2. Lord of the Rings has already been written
3. Official website already launched - www.thelordoftheringsmusical.com
4. Harry Potter is not allowed to be staged until 2008/9.

Much as I love of the Lord of the Rings story and would like to believe that nothing is impossible I'm really worried by the fact that this upcoming show has been written by the people that perpetrated the travesty that was 'Maddie', possibly the dullest musical ever staged in London. (And nobody mention their 'Sing To The Dawn', one of only three cast recordings that I returned to the store...)
