I'm sure they'll beef up the women's roles. I mean character like Faramir, Boromir (second half anyway) maybe Merry and Pippin will be chrous for some numbers becasue with a 2 and a half hour lord of the rings, not all 43.5 leading characters from the books are gonna be in much of the musical Updated On: 11/13/04 at 02:26 AM
The sad thing is, I always compared to Epwyns character to Eponines character. Inlove with the guy she cant have, willing to put herself in danger to be with him...then whines about it lol :)
Dont get me wrong, Eponine is my FAVORITE character in Les Mis. But she is a bit whiny.

I agree, Plum. It needs to be an opera. LOTR wouldn't make a good musical anymore than Othello or Hamlet would. *sigh* i give up. Even though what I just said was true, who am I kidding? I'm a geek. So here's my list:
Christopher Fitzgerald as Frodo (that was a good call)
Hugh jackman as Aragorn
John Barrowman as Legolas
Anthony Warlow as Elrond (cuz he's too old to play Aragorn )
Colm Wilkinson as Theoden
Kelli O'Hara as Eowyn
Lea Salonga as Arwen
Audra McDonald as Galadriel
Me as Boromir - he's my favorite character, I call dibs, and dammit, it's a perfect fit for me
Ernie Sabella as Gimli
John Raitt as Gandalf
Tom Hewitt as Denethor
Norbert Leo Butz as Samwise Gamgee
Michael Ball as Faramir
Michael Arden as Merry
Adam Fleming as Pippin - wouldn't they be cute together?
John Lithgow as Saruman - much higher voice than Chris Lee, but it works
Raymond Jaramillo MacLeod as Eomer - dude is huge
And for my last pick, it's a doozy, and he may not be able to play the darker side of the character, but...
John Tartaglia as Gollum
There you have it.
There should be a duet between Aragorn and Legolas about which one is prettier.
'There should be a duet between Aragorn and Legolas about which one is prettier'
No, no, Aragorn would not get involved in that. He's not the pretty type.... more the 'rough and ready' type
And Michael Ball as Faramir? Please... No. He could possibly pull off playing a campy elve but not Faramir

The same composer as Bombay Dreams? Did I read that right? So we can look forward to songs like "Shakalaka Gandalf" then.

Gah. For the record, Eowyn puts herself in battle to honor her country. BUT thanks to PJ's doe-eyed Eowyn that made her into the Eponine character, this is exactly what's going to happen in the stage show.
And I love Eponine as well, but I'm not gonna stand and watch the only really strong female char. for LOTR get turned into that.
The only choice for Gollum is David Hyde Pierce because of the physical resmblence...
An Eponine version of Eowyn, yup, I'm sure thats gonna happen.

Oh please. I've watched the EE version of The Two Towers twice and Eowyn was all school girl on Aragorn. My reason not to see this musical, folks.
Oh My! David Hyde Pierce as Gollum? I can SO see it!
Also, Chris Katan as Gollum. If anyone has seen him do an impression of Gollum on SNL you know what I am talking about!
How about "I'll Make a Man out of You" (Mulan) for Aragorn to sing to the Hobbits? lol, training them to fight!
Edit: Can anyone else picture Euan Morton as Frodo?

I can see Chris Katan, not David Hyde Pierce. And I think Michael Ball would do just fine as Faramir. Granted, not the Faramir from the book, but the character they had in the movie. i agree with Peter Jackson that the Faramir in the books could not translate to a storytelling medium. Besides, he could get a great mournful ballad as he races off into the field toward the Mordor army, after the scene with Denethor.

Definitely Chris Kattan as Gollum. And Faramir NEEDS a ballard. And the hobbits must get the cute catchy song.

David Hyde Pierce? YESSSSS!
I definatly see a Hobbit kick line...maybe that's just me though...

Hobbit kick line? LMAO
how about one of those cheerleading pyramids?
this is going to be horrible. first off, i'm speaking from an opinion in which i HATE lotr, so... yeah...
I love LOTR and its still going to be horrible.
There was a time when everyone would have said Marissa.
*sigh* remember those good days?
This is what I agree with so far:
Hugh jackman as Aragorn
Colm Wilkinson as Theoden
Kelli O'Hara as Eowyn
Lea Salonga as Arwen
Norbert Leo Butz as Samwise Gamgee
Michael Ball as Faramir
I don't know how well Ian can sing, but he has acted on stage.
I guess we'll see about everything else, becuase I mean... Billy and Merry both sing (I didn't say amazingly).
I have high expectations... I am completely obsessed with LOTR, and I hope I can see this when I'm in Britain this summer.

Actually I was comparing the Eowyn in the book to the Eponine in the book of Les Mis. I read the LOTR Books way before the movies came out, and even then she irratated me untill she slayed the nazgul and you realize she isn't a man lol.

So did I, Viva. And I still thought that the book Eowyn kicked ass.
LOVE the idea of Tartaglia as Gollum. It is weird, but I bet he would blow the roof off. He's ridiculously talented. I'm also a big fan of Kelli O'Hara as Eowyn.
I would like to propose Barrett Foa as Legolas.
Magic I completely agree with you.
Thanks 'Ponine. I just think Barrett Foa is blonde and gorgeous and talented enough to pull of Legolas....and I can't think of many other actors who would work.
