I'm sure there was an old thread about this. Probably posted by me no doubt. This is referring to the musical opening in London late 2005 I believe. Dream casting:

Frodo: Christopher Fitzgerald
Gandalf: Ian McKellen (can he sing?)
Aragorn: Hugh Jackman

nah, I was thinking of Chenoweth as the Ring. She's smaller. :)

How the hell are they gonna condense over a thousand pages of war and travelling into a stage show? I love LOTR, don't get me wrong, but still! Even Pete Jackson had to cut out stuff from the film version.

Plus, who's composing the monster?

I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan. And this is the worst Idea I have ever heard. I dont think the musical will do it justice, although I am hoping it proves me wrong.

I still think there should be a Legolas solo called "Me and my Lothlorien Bow"

This would be like STAR WARS, The Musical. I don't think it's going to work, but who am I to say...

Yeah, this show was doomed before they even wrote it, but it should be interesting.

And yes, Hugh Jackman would make a great Aragorn, I imagine.

Hugh as Aragorn, I can support.

Now, I'm just getting a very bad feeling that Eowyn's gonna be a little Eponine wanna-be. *shudders* Tolkien is turning in his grave.

How are they going to do this? It's going to be really long.
Yes I also can see Legolas sining I feel pretty. I also think Christopher Fitzgerald would be wonderful as Frodo. How are they going to make the actors playing hobbits 3'6"?
Oh yeah I'm for Hugh as Aragorn all the way.

ouch! *whines* emcee!!!

anyway, I adore Chris Fitz, but I don't think he could vocally handle a leading role.

I believe the term my mother used when we first heard about this was the "10 hour musical."

And I actually wrote bits and pieces of an LOTR musical for a friend who loves the books and was in theatre. Granted, I had the Council singing "Hello, Dolly!" (don't ask- I wrote it after a very long day), but it was still funny as hell. And, just my dumbness, I threw the thing out by accident. But damn- why didn't I think of 'I Feel Pretty?'

LOTR needs to be a big ol' multipart opera, if anything. I despise the source material, but it seems right for the Wagner Ring (ha!) Cycle treatment.

how on earth can they do a show like this on stage? all the actors are different sizes, ranging from like 3' 5"-4' for hobbits up to 7' for Gandalf.

need to defrag my brain.

I think they're likely go for short actors but not actaul 3'6. Also I think a lot of the characters are going to be bit parts shared by the chrous.

Bit parts? God, I really hope the Shieldmaiden of Rohan isn't reduced to a low standing (nothing against chorus members and bit actors- but it's Eowyn!)
