Worst idea ever - Lord of the Rings--The musical.

Oh my gosh. Please, do not do this! Reminds me of Titanic - The Musical. The scope of the story is way to big! And really...do you want to hear a couple of Hobbits singing? ... or Gandolf bring down the house with an Eleven O Clock number, "IF HE CAN'T DO IT, NOBODY CAN. (MY DEAR BOY)" or watch an army of orcs dance to something like Morning of the Dragon from Miss Saigon.

Just imagine,... Tony Award Winner Joel Grey brings down the house as Gollum with comedic timing singing the witty vaudeville song, "Yes, please/ No thank you!"

First, STOP thinking of the movies. This is based off of the books, NOT the recent films. Costumes are all different. It's a unique approach.

I'm interested in seeing it for the performance art value. We'll see how good the show actually is.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

how is it going to be 3 hours long?? ive read les mis and his dark materials (they should do that on broadway by the way) and les mis has a lot of pure characterization and the movement is not as prominent as lotr which i think is partly why it made it as a musical. his dark materials was a play so it allowed for more forward movement in plot but isnt a musical too much for the adventure stuff??

I've been a huge fan of Tolkien for awhile, so I always feel rather vicious towards folks who try to adapt it in any way to screen/stage (the old animated films literally made me barf; PJ on the other hand is a genius). The music on the site sounded decent, but I'm more concerned about it ruining the brilliance of the world Tolkien created, and that PJ so amazingly reproduced. I hope they incorparate some Sindarin as they did in the movies; David Salo could use the job, and it would be good for Carl Hostetter's ego.

Same here. I'm a huge Tolkein fan and in my opinion, nothing can ever beat the books. Peter Jackson did a phenomenal job on the movie, and Bakshi's animated one scared the hell out of me but either way I wish they'd stop trying to turn the books into some new adaptation to try to squeeze more money out of die hard lord of the rings fans. Just leave it alone already.
