Hi everyone,
I just updated my Musicals Coming to L.A. page (check the link at the end of all my posts.) I've seen and highly recommend the hilarious People Vs. Friar Lawrence (a huge hit in Chicago too), A Year with Frog and Toad, and of course the long running and justly acclaimed Bark! I'm plan or hope to see in the next month or so: I Do! I Do! (now in its final week), Urinetown (first So.Cal regional production in Costa Mesa), City of Angels (with the fantastic Stef Tovar), Little Women, Dames At Sea, Do Re Mi (one night only!), On The Town, and The Full Monty. An exciting September and October for us Angelinos.

Thanks AR3BDWY for the info on Lucky Stiff. I guess the Gem Theater slipped under my radar. I've added it to my musicals page. Unfortunately my own rehearsals will prevent me from seeing any of the performances. Darn! But it is coming to Fullerton Civic Light Opera next year so I'll just have to wait. And yes, Gavrochegirl, Urinetown (which I'm seeing on the 17th) looks to be quite good. Check out the pix at the Costa Mesa Playhouse website.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 2:26amI just saw Urinetown this past weekend. It's absolutely hilarious. It's my first time seeing the show, and they did it great! I laughed so hard. I really enjoyed the cast. I highly recommend it.

Hey guys,
First off, thanks for the info! It's great to hear about shows I can actually go see.
And second off, in case anyones interested, the community theatre that I'm involved with just released their 2006 scedule and it looks awsome. It's a pretty small theatre and its not the most extravegant of sets etc but the many shows I've seen there have always been amazing and very intimate. Plus its in the round which I always thought was cool. Anyways here's the website with the new season if you want to check it out.

Dreamcatcher, I liked GCC's Pajama Game and hope to catch Dames at Sea on October 5, about the only evening I could see it in my busy schedule. They do very good work, and are hugely successful at filling seats. Unlike you, however, I don't really like to see plays "in the round." I miss a good set design, which can make a play extra special, and find seeing the audience on all three other sides a bit too distracting. I can see that as an actor it would be fun though. If you're a performer there, I hope to catch you in one of their shows.
I'm very pleased that Urinetown has gotten such good reviews from the Orange County press. I loved the tour, but it'll be great to see it close up!

Yeah the Urinetown production looks wonderful. I hope I can go see it sometime. It sounds great!
And eslgr8, I can understand how theatre in the round can be a bit distracting as an audience member since blocking has it so that no matter where you sit you see the backs of an actor in the scene but as an actor it is alot of fun to work in the round as well as a very interesting experience. My opinions probably a bit biased though since GCT is the only professional theatre that I've really worked at so far. I hope that you get to see Dames at Sea during its run. I just saw it on Saturday and I was extremely impressed. I interned there all summer at their children's summer camp so I worked backstage during the kids show but I'm going to be in their next production, The Teahouse of the August Moon which has been a great experience so far.
