I use it all the time when I don't want to give someone my driver's license, let's say at a doctor's office. You get a year of free membership to a whole bunch of cultural organizations too!
Why would you have any issue withshowing a doctor's office your driver's license?
Basically I hate giving out more information than necessary. I'm always on the alert for the possibility of identity theft. For instance, if someone asks for your driver's license in a doctor's office, often they put it on a scanner and make a copy. To me, that's overkill.
I also hate now when I go for physical therapy or to the drug store to pick up a prescription, you have to state your name and your date of birth in a room full of people. Date of birth is a crucial identifier and shouldn't be bandied about. Just my humble opinion.
