I'm not very good at reviews, but I thought I would post my thoughts since I don't get to NYC very often (this was my second time ever!) I want to start by saying I really enjoyed it. I wasn't sure how I would feel about Runyon coming in and out, but I really thought it worked well! I though Craig Bierko and Kate Jennings Grant had wonderful chemistry, and both did really well with their parts. I also thought that Lauren Graham was extremely funny as Miss Adelaide! I was disappointed in Oliver Platt, although I thought he got better as the show went on. My dream role out of any show is Nicely Nicely, and although sometimes I was a bit confused as to whether Tituss was being Nicely or Sebastian, I though Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat was so good, who cares! Mary Testa did so much with such a small role. She is such a dynamo! I really enjoyed the choreography in this show, particularly in the Havana scene. very well done in my opinion. I was extremely impressed with the set, and more importantly the set changes! I don't know why some people are so down on this show, it was very entertaining! And shame on anyone who disses Guys and Dolls in general! This show is the best of the best. I wanted to see it again as we were leaving the theatre! On a side note, I always forget that these theatres are not built for big folks like myself, and was reminded of that fact as I was wedged into my seat in the front row of the balcony. I'm sorry to that little old lady who was sitting next to me! The theatre was packed to the gills with people, all loving the show! The applause after Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat went on FOREVER! Kudos to everyone involved in this show. I REALLY hope they make a cast recording!
Sorry if my thoughts are sporadic. Michigan to New York is a LONG drive, and I spent most of this weekend driving and just got home.
Glad you had a good time! I hope you can come back to NYC soon!

we left Friday night at 7:30 and got there Saturday morning at 7:30, but that was with break stops. We stayed up all day in the city and saw a 2pm show and a 8pm show, then drove out of the city at around 11pm. We stopped in New Jersey to stay the night. I alo picked up the Shrek Cast Recording...not the best, but I still bet the show is great! It has some good moments, but the songs seem to have been written in a hurry and aren't polished. The performances are good, though.
We are planning another trip for this summer and are planning to fly. In June our local airport is starting direct Flights to Newark on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays for 69 dollars one way. Sounds like a deal to me!

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope you come back to NYC soon as well! I have yet to see this production. I saw a production at Arena Stage in DC a billion years ago....but never got to see the much loved revival with Nathan Lane and Faith Prince. I still want to see this production- I understand that the dancing is great. I haven't heard much about Nick Adams' performance. His interview on Fox 5 AM NY is too funny...can't believe he wore a tank top at that time of the day!

You saw the same two shows that my son is seeing next weekend on his school chorus trip. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed G&D; I was a bit worried after reading the threads on this board and reading the reviews that he really wouldn't enjoy it, but I think he will! Glad you had a good trip & hope you can come back soon!
