LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Will Patti bring her renowned Gypsy to London any time soon? I'm aware that she is now once again not on good terms with Mr Laurents...does this mean London will NEVER see Gypsy again?

I hope to God that Elaine Paige does not do Mamma Rose any time soon.........

NO; NO and NO!

Is that a wish Mama?

I wouldn't write this one off yet...

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

I for one would love to see Patti Lupone reprise her Gypsy in London but after all this time, it seems unlikely surely?
#6

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Not really - David Ian still isn't giving up the rights or plans.

Just keep watching www.gypsylondon.com is all I will say.

It came so close this summer. I would say if it doesn't happen in 2011/start of 2012, this attempt also has failed. Just like the Tyne Daly Gypsy when that almost had a season at The Prince of Wales

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Fingers crossed it does. Will keep an eye on that website LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Tyne Daly was booked for the Prince Edward and was cancelled because she wouldn't fly to the UK due to the troubles in the Middle East at the time,.

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Lets hope Ms Lupone will have no need for such concerns.

Perhaps Grease could close and it could go in at the Piccadilly LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Its a different world today. The Kuwait invasion had a huge incredible impact on the West End, shows closed right left and centre.
The current situation doesn't seem to be having that effect.

She does give some fantastic performances - though she tends to overdo it at times.

Maybe we should organise a reunion dinner with the company of Sunset Blvd LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Seriously, I don't know if it would work though. LuPone is adored in NY and even there she couldn't bring in the punters and the show closed early - maybe they'd had too many Gypsy revivals - I don't know.

Ah yes, Patti's Sunset was fabulous - despite all the happened

That will be one empty bar!

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Women On The Verge is probably a project closer to her heart.
#15

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

I get my Princes mixed up, yes it was Prince Edward.

She was great in Sunset, ALW should never have stitched her up like he did! Terrible really.

I hope we get to see Gypsy again, even if its not this production, we deserve to get a gypsy production!

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Well, Evita took 4 years to get to Broadway, so, there is plenty of time yet...
#17

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

As much as i'd love a Gypsy revival i'd rather eat my ears before hearing LuPone butcher her way through the score again...eurgh! or Piggy Paige for that matter either!

Mwah - love ya!

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

Paige can still sing but her voice isn't what it used to be. It's thin and breathy and becomes quite scratchy and hoarse sounding on high notes. I just can't imagine that she'll be able sing the Gypsy score nowadays.

I think it was really Piaf that did it, you can easily notice the thinner quality of her voice in her King and I recording which she did after Piaf.

What do you guys think of Ruthie Henshall as a prospective Rose?
I love her "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from The Ruthie Henshall album, and it would be refreshing to see a woman who could actually have children of Louise/June's age ranges in the show.

I know Marguerite gave her vocal damage. Has she healed sufficiently to be able to sing Rose's songs?

I hope not

Or Maria Friedman, failing that Stephanie J Block.

LOVE to see Ruthie Henshall in this!

Can we have Lily Savage as Miss Mazeppa!?

And Gavin Creel as Tulsa? :P
#25

LuPone-Gypsy-West End

That's funny you mentioned Gavin Creel - I was just thinking he'd sound beautiful singing that number. I've never heard a version with a first-rate voice (though I did recently hear Julian Ovenden do it but without the spoken portions, i.e. without most of the words?!)

I've been listenting to the Follies OLC, and Lynda Baron could've been a knockout Mazeppa. Perhaps she's a tiny bit too mature for the part, now... I can see Tiffany Graves as Electra or Tessie Tura. Would Josefina Gabrielle consider playing Mazeppa/Cratchit, I wonder?

Who'd be a good Louise for Henshall? Alexandra Silber?
