Is anyone from the board planning on seeing this? I'm pricing a trip to Chicago at the moment. Do tickets end up on any discount sites? Thanks.

I really hope I can go see it. I know it was on goldstar, I'm not sure if it's still there.

I'm seeing it on May 7th. I know they were running a really good discount for the first eight previews, which is when I'm seeing it. Usually the lyric opera is really good about discounts. If you check their facebook. Right now, I believe there is a 20% off sale going on.

If you can wait, please keep checking Goldstar for additional dates. You can indicate by clicking the Stars box to the left of the description paragraph that you are interested in further performances and they will notify you by email. Also, Hottix.org may sell discount tickets in advance when the show opens.

Just saw the production today...I have really never been a fan of this show, but wholly moly, what a pageantry this production was. The extravagance of the costumes and vastness of the set really blew me away. As much as I enjoyed last years production of Carousel, I felt the lyric stage really overwhelmed that production. But this King and I is perfect for this stage.
All the performances were really solid, but Kate Baldwin is really the reason to see this production. She is on fire with this performance. Of course her singing is beautiful, but her acting is just tremendous. She has a fantastic expressive face. Even in scenes when she wasn't speaking, I would constantly watch her. Her interpretation of "Shall I tell you what I think of you?" is funny, angry, touching, sad all in one. The price of admission is worth it just for that one number.
Is this the best version of the King and I? not sure. It's the only professional one I have seen, but I do highly recommend it if you are in Chicago. Also to hear that beautiful score from this massive orchestra, is pretty incredible.

If anyone is interested in seeing this it's last week playing, Groupon has a good deal as well. Personally I prefer Groupon to Goldstar when it comes to discounts for Lyric because you can pick your own seats. If you use the code GROUPON16 on Lyric's site, you can find a ton of seats, including main floor, for 50% off.
Super excited to see this on Wednesday. I love Kate Baldwin, she's so underrated, if King & I continues to run on Broadway after Marin leaves, I think Kate should replace her.
