Cute, but uninspired. Do they really think THAT will sell tickets?
Uninspired? U kidding? It was adorable, fun, and exhilirating. BRAVO! Bought my tickets!

Adorable, fun, and exhilirating are hardly the keywords you'll use after seeing the entire show. Trust me .

I enjoyed the show very much. One of the most original page/screen-to-stage adatptations to date. Leagues better some of the other adaptations.

I haven't seen the show yet but it looked cute on TV.
I saw the show in it's first week of previews and after seeing them sing on the Today Show just restates what a great show that this is. Makes me want to see it again.
I thought it was great... We just saw it this last Saturday and it was awesome! I was just sad they cut them off at the end for the commerical break!

I missed it on the Today Show. What did they perform from it??

I was so upset about that cut off. Oh well...only 8 more days till I am there! :)
They performed Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
They looked and sounded great
It was cold and early, but they did well. How fun! It'll only get better.

While I wouldn't use the word "adorable" to describe this show, I would most certainly use the other two, and add enjoyable and fantastic as well.

I had my DVR set for the 8:30a half-hour and was more than a little ticked off they decided to have the segment right before the commercial break at 8:20a.

Mary Poppins on the Today Show
I will preface this by saying how much I love Ashley Brown and how excited I am to see her in this role, but...
Am I the only one who thinks she just came off as odd in that performance?
Her diction and her phrasing are just... weird. It sounds like she can't make up her mind as to whether she wants to do a cockney, Victorian, or Irish accent, and she doesn't enunciate at all.
Mary should be cool, confident, and composed, but Brown just seemed overly jovial and bright, jumping around like a teenage girl (if that makes any sense.) In this format, the character is supposed to even seem a bit cold and reserved (which some fans of the film version have complained about,) and Ashley just seemed to be about ready to scream with happiness at times (watch the beginning when she first spells out the word, for example.)
She also had this... bewildered look on her face at times too, like a deer in headlights (particularly when she was spelling out the word while Gavin imitated it with his body language,) and her voice doesn't sound very pleasant at all. As a matter of fact, it came off very forced (which suprised me, because I always figured the vocals would be the thing she'd have the least trouble with.)
I don't know. The whole thing just lacked the energy and electricity the London OBC had when they performed it. Hopefully this was just the result of the early morning cold or nerves..

Yes it was kinda weird but she will get better as the show goes on. I got tickets for January 10 I cant wait to see it. Mary Poppins will be my first ever show I see on Broadway.
SomethingWicked, I have to agree with you. It seems like those extra three months in London didn't do what they were supposed to for Ashley's accent or her voice. She is a talented girl not being shown to her best advantage -- I really think in many ways she was miscast.
I found the only thing electrifying about that performance was Gavin Lee. He just has that "wow" factor, that star quality that made me not able to take my eyes off of him!
I also felt that the choreography was just ridiculous and a waste of really talented dancers. That wacko, ADHD hand-jive busy-ness did NOT do it for me.
I hope the creative team will see room for improvement in THEIR work.
And all that aside, kudos to that entire cast for performing in frickin' cold weather at the crack of a$$ this morning!

somethingwicked, I felt the exact some way. As Mary, she's supposed to OWN the stage, but I felt her presence in this preformance better suggested, as you said, a teenager. And I was thinking the same thing about how the London Cast seemed so much more alive. Hopefully things will get better as the show progresses (and they preform it indoors), I have very good reasons for not wanting to hate this show when I see it [see below].

Omg! Me too. Except I'm going on the 4th. YAY!
I'm glad I'm not the only one with the issues about Brown's accent. She's mostly OK, but has problems with the "-ocious" sound, which clearly shows up in the song. She just sounds a bit fake.
She did come over as very bouncy and chirpy, and just too sing song I'm not very keen.
Gavin is still brilliant.

I think they may've been a bit tied...they probabl had to wake up at 5:30am after doing the show last night till about 11pm...so I can understand.
They only did one song? Or did they do more? I saw the last couple minutes of Super...you know LOL! I had to leave for work after that. I think it looks cute, I can't wait to see it in April

Holy crap, could she overact any more? "It's going to prove a raaather useful one!" Unless that's how the role is meant to be played.
And if that IS how the role is played, I won't be seeing the show. Even Julie Andrews wasn't THAT bright and cheerful. Mary has to have a primness about her, even in "Supercali" and I didn't get that from this.

She really needed to calm down, I agree...hopefully she's mroe tame in the show, as she'll be going through the journey on stage.
