The new Original Cast Album of the Broadway at Birdland concert version of Merman's Apprentice (book & lyrics by Stephen Cole, music by David Evans) is available on amazon.com. The reviews for the concert have been fabulous.
"MERMAN’S APPRENTICE hits the bull’s eye! Melodies that have the perfect period pizzazz to remind us of when Broadway really was Broadway. "
Peter Filichia, theater critic, Star-Ledger emeritus
"Merman’s Apprentice – Jubilant, Warm, Funny. Numbers with lyric specificity shine. Music is appealing and often Mermanesque. Arrangements are terrific. Cole has succeeded in spades. A thoroughly entertaining musical"
Alix Cohen, Woman Around Town
"A hilarious good time from start to finish as well as poignant and insightful."
Marilyn Lester, Theatre Pizzazz

Some of my friends saw the concert last week and loved it.
I'm looking forward to hearing this recording.
when you all buy the cd, please post a review on Amazon! thanks so much.
also here on Broadwayworld is a great photo set from the monday night concert.
I saw the show and have a cd. It's wonderful old fashioned musical comedy numbers with great orchestrations.
Had the pleasure of working with Klea Blackhurst and Elizabeth Teeter when I was interning at the York Theatre. I'm glad to see them involved in this project and that it's getting buzz.
Wasn't Richard Kind attached to this as well somehow?
Richard Kind was going to play David Merrick in the first concert and wound up getting a TV show, so the great Bill Nolte did the role and killed in it, so we kept him. Here's a link to a blog that has a fabulous review of the recent concert and cd: http://mr-bdway.simplesite.com/
Just scroll down a bit!
Ah, gotcha. I ask because Kind was another person I worked with at the York. It's kind of interesting how three people involved with your show all went "Yorkside" in a single semester. I love that theatre!
FYI, I am a lyricist too...the only difference between you and me is that I haven't found my collaborator yet. As they stand, all my work is just words and no music...
I am a vintage York-y too....I have had three mainstage productions there: AFTER THE FAIR, THE ROAD TO QATAR! and INVENTING MARY MARTIN and readings of my other shows. Find that collaborator (or even better...plural...more pots on the stove mean more chances)
