Does anyone know of the stronger MFA directing programs? Or perhaps gone through a strong MFA program along those lines? Thank you! (I searched for a thread. If there was one, feel free to send it my way.)

I suggest you go to the U/RTA conference this February. Pretty much every directing MFA program will be represented there, except the "big three"--Yale, NYU, and Juilliard, who I guess are "above" it all :)

BTW--Indiana University (where I went for undergrad) has a good MFA directing program, but they are very selective and take only one student per year. They are also members of U/RTA.

Are you talking about film? NYU's graduate film program is well-respected and selective. They accept about 40 of the 800 applicants they get. It's a three year program.

Juilliard's theatre director program won't exist after this year for new applicants and it was part of the BFA anyway, not MFA as someone else said.

Brandeis apparently just revamped their MFA program to become more selective and intense.

Whatever happened to class?

I know that Yale and University of Washington are in the top 4. Juilliard and NYU don't have MFA's in directing.

I'm looking at Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, and University of Cincinnati CCM.

Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, I am looking mainly for stage direction, although film is just as intriguing. Again, thank you. If their are any others feel free to let me know! Also, is there a book on directing programs that list the "top" programs? I know they do this sort of thing for acting but tend to forget the directors. Thanks!
