Tamyra was offered Dorothy??!! Argh - I'm really not a huge fan of hers. And isn't she a little too old for the role? Or is the revival going for the whole Diana Ross thing?? Jennifer Hudson would be a great choice. However, I still think Tiffany Taylor from "CAMP" would be great.

I love how my 'routine's getting old' because I point out there's more to life than earnest and completely unflinching love for showtunes but people being devoutly offended each and every time a pop singer dares sing a standard with one vocal note different than what the composer wrote down 50 years ago hasn't run the same tired course. People should be happy they put a Broadway song on what will be one of the five most watched TV shows of the year. Good thing there ARE a few showtunes that are banal and trite enough to fit the less-than-artistic pop sensibilities put forth out there.

As for Tymyra doing Broadway? Please. She doesn't need to look for a gig like that yet. Maybe in a few years if her star fades a bit. Maybe she could do a TV movie where some people might actually see her.

As long as she doesn't sing the National Anthem ...

I usually agree with your posts Johnpapa, as I think you have a great sense of what Broadway is about and what it needs. But it appears as though sometimes you just want to be contrary to whatever the popular opinion is. I wouldn't include myself in the "devoutly offended" group, I just don't care for all the slides and trills pop singers tend to put into musical theater songs. I will also say that I don't like classically trained singers who take on pop songs. They sound like elevator music most of the time.
