I didn't see it, but I just heard that they did "The Impossible Dream" on American Idol... anyone see?

yeah - diana, fantasia, ruben, and kelly sang

diana messed up the words in her second line though
"to beat the unbearable foe"
should be "To beat the unbeatable foe"

it was a really cool arangment

I really liked the way they did "Impossible Dream". Sure, there were some mess ups on the lyrics, but I thought it was beautiful.

I kinda hoped Diana would win, but Fantasia was just amazing.

It was horrible. I'm not a fan of pop versions of musical theater songs. But I'm glad Fantasia won.

I was on the verge of crying (its one of my favorite songs from my favorite show) and then they made a total mess of it - Sometimes pop singers just do to much scatting (for lack of a better word) can't they just sing the note as written without going around it three times in every direction possible just to show off the fact that they have those notes???????

I heard that and I didn't like it too much either. I think that Broadway songs should never be popified. *shudders at the thought*

And am I the only one who REALLY likes Diana? I think she has a great voice.

I like Diana a lot too, but she needs to grow more and she needs training. She's got a big voice and no control over it. She is adorable though.

i am so glad fantasia won!!!! one of my fav. moments was when fantasia, latoya, and jen hutson all sang together!!!! it reminded me of dreamgirls!!!! jen- effie, fan - lorel, latoya - denna. and i am so glad that tamyra sang at the beginning!!!! they someone needs to get her on broadway and star in the wiz!!!!!

tamyra was offered the role on dorthy, but sadly she turned it down i think she made a bad choice. if she were to play that role it would launch her music caree even further! i hope they ask her again and someone can talk her into doing it!!! she would sing the hell out those songs!!!!!!

That's not good news. But I'm sure there are tons of young talented girls who would be great in the role. I always like the idea of using unknowns in a role like that. Surround her with veteran actors and she'll be fine.

I don't think Tamyra can afford to be turning anything down after that ghastly, no, that incredibly unbelievably embarrassing rendition of the National Anthem. First of all - why was it performed in the first place.

Did I mention that it was horrible!

JohnPopa when coupled with that icon of yours - your comments make you sound like such a hard-ass. I have nothing against bringing showtunes into the new Millenium, but hearing them butchered is completely different. Which is exactly what those young ladies did on American Idol last night - BUTCHERED The Impossible Dream.

Thank you Redhot, I wanted to say the same thing. Nothing against Jonpapa, but the posts are always so Devil's advocate. It's almost as played out as the one who uses the word "hussy" too much.
