I am going to MOTHER COURAGE and was wondering if cameras are allowed in this event?....yes...I know they SAY no cameras, but in many outdoor venues they ignore that once you get there. Obviously I don't mean annoying flash type, but a good digital that is unobtrusive.
AND BEFORE YOU FLAME ME....I am in the biz and would NEVER EVER take a camera to an inside theatre, and would berate anyone that did in my sight! However, as this is an outside venue, which I've never been to, I thought it might be a bit more permissible. I will absolutely stand corrected if this is not allowed, HOWEVER, please don't say it's not allowed unless you REALLY know this. Here in Vegas every ticket says "no cameras" and you can take cameras to every venue and have security take your picture with it!! So just because they say "no cameras" doesn't really mean it....SOOOOO....can I?
You will find out at the event.
That was the chicken-**** kind of response I was hoping to avoid by being honest with my question....oh well....nice to know I can always count on certain certainties!

Actors Equity strictly forbids taking photos during the performance. However, if you wanted to take a photo of the stage before the show, they probably would not throw you out or take your camera. Let's face it, they would have to take everyone's cell phones, since most of them take pictures now.
As long as you don't get caught trying taking a picture during the play, you are OK.
They were strict about no cameras during THE SEAGULL, so I assume they'd be strict this time. An entire audience snapping shots of Meryl Streep on stage would get pretty distracting, even without flash.

Like every Broadway/off-Broadway show, the "no photos" rule is strictly enforced. The ushers make a point of yelling at people if they see a flash go off and it usually in the opening "no cell phones/photography" speech.
It's a hazard to the actors.

I wasn't trying to be funny or anything, sometimes you really find out when you get there. No one can tell you "yes you can take pics" right now, because they might change their policy.
It's rude and tacky. Period. It is not a sports event.
Yeah, I agree, you can't really take pics at a play or a musical, I think it's ok to do it during curtain call though.
I know B'way does not allow pix ever, even during curtain calls or post show announcements. I saw Brooklyn and kids were snapping pix of Eden during a post show announcement and then she SNAPPED and yelled "NO MORE PICTURES - it is against the law!"

The Delacorte can be very strict about this and they have dozens of ushers sitting strategically around the theatre throughout each performance, so I personally would never try to take a picture during a show there.

"...yes, I know they SAY no cameras..."
So you know it, but what, feel you're special? Are you looking for reinforcement? Hoping to see people support your thoughts of bad behavior? Waiting to have someone tell you what you want to hear?

You won't be able to take pictures at all. And it's not just actors who don't want the show photographed- it's the lighting, costume, set designers as well.
"However, if you wanted to take a photo of the stage before the show, they probably would not throw you out or take your camera..."
I was in the mezz at a performance of DRS, and before the show, someone tried to take a picture of the stage. The usher yelled out to not take pictures and that it was against the law.

At the Delacorte, the ushers are so tough (and rightfully so), that they'd confiscate cameras and make the owners check them. I've seen it happen.
