Hey there - just back from an exhausting week in NYC - I'm back in October to see Kylie Minogue but had a theatre week of heaven!
5/27 - 9 TO 5 - Loved it, Stephanie Block and Marc Kudisch really stood out for me. Get Out and Stay Out was amazing as was the fantasy sequence, this show put it's money where it's mouth was. Real high gloss! Megan Hilty has her Dolly routine down to a fine art and Allison Janney still has a hint of CJ Cregg in her as Violet which is no bad thing!
5/28 - HAIR - Just inspiring. Completely felt the love, we had mid orchestra seating and got to see how everything should play. The vibe from the band and that incredible cast (sorry, Tribe) made it more than a show, it was an experience. If this doesn't win a few Tonys for Mr Creel and definitely Mr Swenson I will be very unhappy. The revival Tony should be in the bag. This show delivers like no other.
5/30 - NEXT TO NORMAL - Caught the matinee, my friend didn't fancy it so I went myself and had really decent seating. At first I was a bit unsure as the subject matter seemed a bit deep for any show but Ripley, Tveit, Damiano and Spencer pulled this one out with stunning vocals and acting. I went from feeling immensely sad to so uplifted by the end. A real surprise as this kind of thing isn't normally for me but superb acting. I loved Alice Ripley - a real powerhouse performance.
5/30 - ROCK OF AGES - Some friends were meeting us and suggested Rock of Ages which didn't seem my thing again but I totally loved it. The plot is paper thin, scene stealing happens constantly. The audience lapped it up. The 6 packs were flowing and it was like a crazy installment of Girls Gone Wild. They really did rock out. I didn't recognise some of the songs but most I did and sang along. One crazy chick kept on screaming out for Konstantin and the craziest chick beside me yelled out "Stroke that ass" a few times which cracked me up! Great for a Saturday night out drinking!
5/31 - HAIR - I had to go back and experience this again. We had front row aisle seats. Such a part of the show. It drew me in. I really felt Sasha Allen's voice reverb through me. It gave me goosebumps. This cast make it seem like improv but everything is just perfectly created. Caissie Levy was another standout from the first time who brought the house down with her "Easy To Be Hard" as Sheila. Allison Case is adorable as Crissy. When I'm back in October this show is the must repeat. A real experience that I've never felt by a show. Needless to say, the cast recording is filling up my top 25 tunes on iTunes!
Sorry for prattling on, this is just a little bit of what I had to say about these fantastic shows. Not one was anything less than fabulous!
