Dear NBC,
You had such a great success with The Sound Of Music and see how much people enjoy musical theater. How about releasing a dvd of all the performances on The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. (It's probably too much of a royalties nightmare, right?)

The broadcast of The Sound of Music was a huge ratings success, but how have the DVD/BluRay sales been. I would assume those numbers would be more likely to begin to gauge the success of such an item, as well as looking at the numbers of similar releases (such as the Broadway's Lost Treasures series). People watched it, but the question is were they willing to pay to watch it again.
And don't forget all the legal issues that interfered with Broadway's Lost Treasures. Most of these performances are lip synched anyway--I'd rather the people who own the Ed Sullivan Show material finally did something with it aside from that one brief DVD release.
I wasn't aware that most performers lip-synch at the Tony Awards. That kind of defeats the purpose of live theatre.
Some Tonys have been lip synched (I believe Angela Lansbury's Worst Pies, for example) but I thought we were referring to the Parade performances... *confused*
my bad, I was just going by what your post said "And don't forget all the legal issues that interfered with Broadway's Lost Treasures. Most of these performances are lip synched anyway" Since the lip synched sentence followed the sentence about the performances on Broadway's Lost treasures were lip-synched, Now I see that you were referring to Macys.
Oh my gosh, a series of Ed Sullivan theater performances would be spectacular. So many shows of the late 50s and early 60s were on there and nobody can see the performances.
I believe there was a DVD of rock Ed Sullivan performances released a while back, so it's not impossible.
