Making a donation in honor of a cast member?

Also-  why does the donation have to be in his honor?  If you care about the cause, just make it.  What do you gain by sending him a receipt.  You don't know him and apparently you haven't even seen the show.

A good friend of mine saw the show and mentioned it to me because she knows about suicide prevention is a cause I'm passionate about. Seriously, why do you care? What is your problem?

It's just supposed to be a nice gesture. It's not a nice gesture for you so I don't know why you're so up in arms about it. Can you please leave me alone now? You don't know me so I don't know what you gain by consistently being awful to me.

I think it is admirable to make your donation in an actors honor and sending cookies is a cool thing too.. I think some people who live in New York and see a lot of shows get a bit cynical at times. However some are exactly as you described- mean.So keep your chin up..  I cant wait for you to tell us how you loved the show."

Thank you so much for the kind words!! I'm from Texas and go to school in Alabama so I relate! And it really is a wonderful show. Thank you so much for being so nice :)

So because a friend told you about his bio, you want to give the guy cookies?  Very strange.

You are twisting my words, and you know it. Seriously, you're a jerk. No other explanation for being so awful. Leave me alone. I mean it.

Even you think that the nice thing I want to do is creepy, I'd rather be creepy and nice than completely terrible and rude to a faceless stranger on the internet.

recentlyfound, I think this is a very sweet idea. A lot of the time when you donate in someone else's name to a charity, there will be an option to send them a little certificate/proof of donation along with a note. Perhaps you could do that and put in the address of the stage door? I think it's very kind of you to want to support a charity that he supports since the show has meant so much to you. I hope you enjoy it when you see it, I saw it in January and absolutely loved it.

Just let the OP be. The situation is harmless and he's not threatening anyone.

Thank you. I understand some people may find it strange, but I really just don't want to be repeatedly bothered about what a "stalker" I am. I'm a 21 year old girl who has struggled with depression and anxiety all of my life, I don't think that feeling a connection to DEH and having a desire to tell a member of the cast how much their role impacts me is cause for Speed's repeated unkind replies here.

Thank you so much! That's a great idea, I really appreciate it. I'm glad to hear how much you loved it!!

You're very welcome. I've dealt with anxiety all my life too and the show really resonated with me on that level, so I totally get why you feel so strongly about it. Ignore the troll, I think most people would probably be touched by the gesture of donating to a charity they support in their name.

I think it is very sweet of you to care enough to make a donation, and most performing artists appreciate a gesture like that.

Ignore the unkind remarks of some people who post.

Really? You've come out of the woodwork more than a decade later to unfairly attack the OP? Real mature. I smell dirty socks...

What did I say that was mean or unkind?  Nothing wrong with being an obsessed fan. Good for you.  I'm bipolar by the way.  I know firsthand that depression sucks.

This thread is so apropos for DEH and how we all use social media and the e-world to communicate! Part of me -- the cynical side -- thinks was all started by the DEH marketing team! LOL

To the OP, there was a thread not too long ago here about sending gifts to actors. I imagine the topic has come up on this forum before many times. Anyway, IIRC, the responses were split about 50/50 between sending a gift or sending a thoughtful card. I vote for the latter. But then again, I work in the philanthropic world and often just a heartfelt -- and handwritten -- note means more than any tangible gift.

Sounds like you already know what you want to do, but if not, I recommend you only send a note, no cookies, booze, etc. If you make a donation, simply say in the note you did so. You need not include a receipt or the dollar amount. At my organization when honorariums or memorial gifts are received, we send a note to the honoree (or the decedent's family) to let them know about the gift. If you'd like this done, include the theater's address and ask that they send an acknowledgement to Mr. Faist.

Just my two cents...

Yes! I second this. So, OP, now you have four cents.

Hi everyone!! Just now on my flight back from NY and wanted to let you all know what I ended up doing - I went with a short note and a tiny airplane-sized bottle of whiskey dropped off at the stage door (Will Roland has been showing on Twitter that people have been bringing them alcohol). I mentioned the donation in the note and how thankful I am for the show and his performance. I'm very grateful that I left the letter, because he ended up not coming out to the stage door that night - I heard that he often does not (he's said in interviews he doesn't) but it was a very moving show for me so I was glad I got to do that.

Also, all of the DEH cast members are truly class acts. If you can stage door this show, I highly recommend it! Everyone came out except for Ben and Mike. My mom started crying when speaking with Rachel and Jennifer about how much this show has meant for our relationship, Michael Park and Will Roland were funny and charming (Michael took selfies with everyone), Laura was extremely cordial and took photos with everyone who wanted one, and Olivia Puckett (who went on as Alanna) took the time to chat with everybody. I'm so happy I had this experience and got to meet so many of the cast members as well as show even a (small) gesture of my appreciation for the show. If you see this show I highly recommend checking out the stage door. Thank you for all of your help deciding what to do! You guys are so nice!
